macOS Monterey（マックオーエス モントレー）は、Appleが開発・配布しているIntel MacおよびAppleシリコンMac用のオペレーティングシステムであるmacOSの18番目のメジャーリリース。バージョンナンバーは12。
macOS Big Surの後継として、2021年6月7日のWWDC 2021の基調講演で同年秋にリリース予定と発表され[2]、同年10月25日より無償配布されている[3]。
名前はカリフォルニア州モントレー郡にあるモントレーという町に由来する。
特徴[編集]
これまでのmacOS同様に、The Open Groupに正式に認定されたUNIXである[4][5]。
WWDCの基調講演で披露された主な新機能は以下の通り[6]。
- Mac用「ショートカット」Appの追加
- 1つのキーボードとマウスで複数のMacやiPadを同時に操作できる「ユニバーサルコントロール」（初期リリースから12.2では未実装、12.3ではベータ版[7]）
- 再設計されたSafariブラウザ
- iOS/iPadOS端末から受信したAirPlayコンテンツの再生に対応
- 画面を共有する機能を含むFaceTimeの強化と、音楽やテレビ番組などのコンテンツを同時に同期して体験できるSharePlay機能の追加
- 「システム環境設定」からMacを初期リセットする機能を追加
- 写真、スクリーンショット、クイックルック、Safariでテキストをコピー、ペースト、翻訳、検索できる「Live Text」機能の追加（Live Textは当初はApple Siliconのみの機能と発表されていたが、のちに要件が緩和されIntel Macでも利用可能になった）[8]
- 「集中モード」により、iPhoneとiPadで異なるモードを設定して通知をフィルタリング[9]
