リチャード・ハミング

リチャード・ハミング（Richard Wesley Hamming、1915年2月11日 - 1998年1月7日）は、アメリカの数学者、情報工学者。ハミング符号の考案で知られる。マンハッタン計画にも参加していた。また、Association for Computing Machineryの創立者であり、会長であった。

- 1915年 - シカゴに生まれる
- 1937年 - シカゴ大学卒業
- 1939年 - ネブラスカ大学修士課程終了
- 1942年 - イリノイ大学博士課程終了。ルイビル大学教授を務める。
- 1945年 - マンハッタン計画に参加。原爆が大気を燃やし尽くすことがないかを計算で確かめた。
- 1946年 - ベル研究所で働く(-1976年)。クロード・シャノンと共に研究を行うようになる。
- 1968年 - チューリング賞受賞
- 1976年 - アメリカ海軍大学院で働く。のちに、アメリカ海軍大学院名誉教授。
- 1988年 - IEEEハミングメダル受賞
