Your calendar (on the main page) must be changed manually every day. Today, I had to change it for you because somebody forgot to. Please write a script to do this. Number of article[編集]

Please, don't erase this message ! It's for the Latin-writer (like European), they can also see how many articles the japanese Wikipedia have 80.170.13.234 2005年6月13日 (月) 21:24 (UTC)

1,414,492 articles

I think the Japanese Wikipedia community should be free to decide for themselves how they want their main page to look. If you want to get rid of the article count go ahead. However, it would be helpful for those of us who need to keep track of article counts if you could put it in a little box at the top of the main page's talk page, or something like that.
1,414,492
How about putting this box into the top of this page? It'll work better, as more people will see, I think.
That would be better than nothing I suppose, but since the number of articles is now listed on the main page, it's not a problem. I thought talk:main page would be a good place because if people come to the main page looking for article count and it isn't there they might logically go to the talk page. Having it here is a slightly more obscure location and you would need to know it was here in order to find it. 81.155.48.169 2005年6月27日 (月) 20:18 (UTC)

I am writing some articles on people have held the world record in the 100 metre sprint. It turns out that a Japanese man, , was an equal world record holder in the 1930's, having set the record in 1935 before claimed it again in 1936. Could anybody help to write an article for the English Wikipedia about him? Arigato. English Wikipedian Robert Merkel

He may be 吉岡隆徳, known as 暁の超特急, it means "Super Express at Dawn". But his name is Takanori Yoshioka. He got 6th place at Final of 100m dash on LA Olympic Game in 1932. And he held co-WR of 100m dash as 10"3 in 1935.

Hello, Webkid. And thank you very much, Martin. :-)
Webkid, the page you mentioned has been protected to keep away from EDIT WAR. It was a matter of opinion "Where is Neutral point of view on the article about Mary, the mother of Jesus?". It's a religious matter.
And for your information, in Wikipedia-ja, two pages exist about Mary. Now editors are also planning how to retain the both pages respectively.

It is also right that Martin said. It is considered that the page has a copyright matter. Check notes of the page, Webkid. - Gombe 12:39 2004年6月1日 (UTC)

Yugoslavia[編集]

Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese, but I think that the article on Yugoslavia (ユーゴスラビア) may have factual errors. In fact there were three countries named Yugoslavia:

 • Kingdom of Yugoslavia (aka "Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes") - between WWI and WWII
 • Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia - after WWII until 1991
 • Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (now Serbia and Montenegro, only part of SFRY)

The best thing to do would be to have three separate articles, as they were three countries with somehow different territory. The article says that the Yugoslav border touched Italy, Austria, Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania , but this is only true for the first two countries, and it doesn't mention year 1918 when the Kingdom of SHS was created. Please see also article on Yugoslavia on English Wikipedia. --Romanm 05:12 2004年6月16日 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for the information. :)
Regarding the names of the country : the ja. article says there were four names of the country bearing "Yugoslavia". The difference between en. is that the name immediately after the WWII was "Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia." The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is the name used only after 1963. Indeed, that's what en:Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia says at its latest version.
Note that ja. edition does not say that there are four different countries, but it just says that there exist four different names.
In fact there are no less than seven diferent names for three different countries:
 • Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes = Kingdom of Yugoslavia - dynastic monarchy
 • Democratic Federal Yugoslavia = Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia = Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) - federal socialist state under rule of communist party (with six consistuent republics)
 • Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) = Serbia and Montenegro - two of the six parts of former SFRY, renamed to "Serbia and Montenegro" in 2003.
Note that the so called "Badinter Commission" was established by the European Council in 1991 to conclude that the former SFRY dissolved and that FRY is not it's only legal successor - this point of view was also adopted by the United Nations that saw FRY as new member of the UN, not legal successor of former SFRY (see [1]). As a matter of fact, right now we have some debate going on on en:Talk:Yugoslavia.
Regarding bordering countries: I have to admit my knowledge and resource at hand is limited, but I can see the bordering countries changed after independence of Slovenia and others. I'll make changes accordingly to the article.
Regarding the number of articles: sometime in the future, someone may expand the artcile and make separate entries to each of the three you mentioned. But the article as it is is not that informative or long as to warrant separation, perhaps. I suppose that's why the three countries are bundled. Not that people are against the idea as a matter of principle. Tomos 06:34 2004年6月16日 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the explanation. BTW, TOMOS is a motocycle factory in Slovenia. It means "TOvarna MOtornih koleS" (Factory of motocycles). Funny how same words can have different meaning in different languages, isn't it? --Romanm 23:07 2004年6月18日 (UTC)
Thanks for the follow-up. And in japan, too, Tomos seems to mean an imported motorcycle :).
I thought there were only four country names containing the name "Yugoslavia" but you told me five. So I missed "Democratic Federal Yugoslavia." Is that like a name for the interim government under Titto, right after the independence from German occupation? As I understand, the declaration of the People's Federal Republic is made in 1945, and the constitution adopted 1946. Did the DFY exist in between? I checked japanese google to see if any page mentions to that English name, and found out that this page is the only one so far. [2]. (Well, it means you are perhaps the first person to write that name within the japanese google's radar.) I guess I will go to ask you more details on en. Tomos 05:46 2004年6月24日 (UTC)

Hi. I would like to know what is the real subject of this article. Is it only for Native American tribe, or is there anything about the city in Wyoming state ?

This question, because the French page fr:Cheyenne is now a disambiguation page, and the Wyoming town is now in fr:Cheyenne (Wyoming). And, in the same way, I don't know if fr:Cheyenne (Wyoming) needs an interwiki for シャイアン or does not.

Konnichi wa! I'm from the English wikipedia, and I have a few questions about the article ラット. First, why does the taxobox (the box with the taxonomic info) refer to Rattus norvegicus, and say that the Japanese name is ドブネズミ (English: Norway rat/brown rat), if the page title is clearly based on the English word "rat", and the English name is listed as rat as well? It seems to make no sense - rat is a generic term that can be properly applied to, well, any member of the genus Rattus, not just the species Rattus norvegicus. Seems like the existing page should be moved to ドブネズミ, and maybe the new ラット page should redirect to クマネズミ属 (or the other way around maybe). I'd do it myself, but I don't know what the policy is, and, well, I don't know if I could determine if the majority of the page matches the taxobox ^^; ...

Okay, now, for some questions for my sake. I notice that under the "species" listing in the taxobox, it says "R.norvegicus" - why is that, and why didn't you list the species as rattus and the subspecies as norvegicus (assuming I'm interpreting it correctly)? I've read something similar in the info for volunteers the zoo I work at gave me (specifically, it lists "rattus norvegicus" as the species in addition to listing the Rattus genus), and I'd like to know if you can give me more information about the reasons to classify it as a subspecies of Rattus rattus and not a seperate species. I'd also like to know how likely people are to know the word ラット, if you don't mind... Then I'll know whether to refer to my ペットラット or my ペット onezumi. Oh, one more thing, while we're at it... The kanji 学名 is pronounced as がくめい, right? I'm hoping "学名(がくめい)" at the start of an article is meant to tell you how to pronounce the kanji... Sorry for the long post ^^; . domo arigato! (yes, I'm aware there are supposed to be some long vowels in that last sentance) - en:Bulbaboy 2005年1月5日 (水) 03:22 (UTC)

Hi Bulbaboy, welcome to the Japanese Wikipedia and Happy New Year! Well, I'm one of the author of ラット. Originally I also thought "ラット" was "rat". But User:Inukawa pointed out that Japanese word "ラット" meant laboratoy strains of R. norvegicus, and ドブネズミ was equivalent of R. norvegicus. It's more correct rather than I thought, I guess. This is the reason of the description of taxobox. If you'd like to know more in detail, then Inukawa may help you, I think. Probably s/he can communicate in English. And please feel free to ask me more on my talk page.
Ah, thanks, that answers one question, at least... Best go change the English name, then - and maybe a few more interwiki things. And I think I will go bug Inukawa about exactly what ラット means - though I might not have to, if I didn't have some R. rattus as pets. The ones at my zoo, though, are definately ラット - from what you said, I'm pretty sure if they're albino, came from a lab, and are R. norvegicus, they qualify. Thanks again.

Articles related to knots[編集]

Hi. I have been trying to sort out the inter-language links for articles related to Knots. All the other language-links have been sorted out, but on the Japanese Wikipedia, there appears to be two disambiguation pages for knots — 結び目 and ノット. Should these be merged, or is there a reason that these two are separate articles? The dis-ambiguation page for knots should link to en:Knot (disambiguation). The knot which is a "method for fastening or securing linear material such as rope by tying or interweaving." should link to en:Knot. I think this might be the Japanese article ロープワーク, but I'm not sure if that article should link to en:Knot or en:Ropework. -- en:User:Ae-a - 2005年3月3日 (木) 15:19 (UTC)

PS. You can assume that all other non-Japanese inter-language links on the English pages are correct.

Replacing English Wikipedia Image[編集]

First of all, I'd like to say that's it wonderful that the Japanese Wikipedia makes it so easy for non-Japanese speakers to communicate with its members. I wish I could say the same courtesy existed on English Wikipedia, though I don't believe that the omission is due to disrespect. The reason I posted is to ask for help. There is an image on English Wikipedia called 050114 1700~01.jpg. It has no copyright information, so we can't be sure it's licensable under GFDL or another free license. I realize that this may be an unreasonable request, but could someone who lives in or near Mukogawa Women's University(武庫川女子大学), in Nishinomiya (西宮市) take a photograph of the university to replace 050114 1700~01.jpg? If someone can do it, pleae post it on Japanese Wikipedia(or English) and notify me at my talk page. Please have someone do the notification in English, as I speak no other languages, except a little Spanish. If no one comes forward to say they can take the picture, can someone list it as a requested picture, if there is such a convention here? Thanks again, Superm401

I have posted a request for it on Wikipedia:画像提供依頼(Request for Images) for you.

Thank you for your help.
 1. Must be a typing error. I have had it changed already
 2. This is the link for the english page as requested.
 3. I have added in the Katakana of 张开天使的翅膀
 4. I have change the name of the title page and the template has been moved here
Once again, thank you.
I edited (proofread) your updated version. I tried to keep your style as much as possible. I think the content makes sense. When you make further edit "もうすぐ" part, I can help again. One last and the most important point is title. I have to apologyze insufficient explanation I made. The point was "・" insted of "。". English version has :Kelvin Tan Wei Lian" as its title. Your version does not have "ケルビン" in its title. You have to decide "ケルビン・チェン・ウェイ・リアン", "ケルビン・チェン・ウェイ・リアン・ケルビン" or whatever. Then you can upload to ウイキペディア.AEIA 2005年11月9日 (水) 20:40 (UTC)

Hello, thanks again.
I was wondering if you can tell me how I can upload it the page?
Hi, The way to edit pages is same as other languages, I guess. Guideline in Japanese is found http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:新しいページを作成する方法 Almost all text, button .... found in edit pages are identical to those in English version. I suppose the easiest way for you is 1. make red-link in your page or http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:サンドボックス (sandbox), 2. follow that link to edit page. If I make it, my name will go into the history, which is violation of your right, so that You should do this step. In case of trouble, leave some lines here.AEIA 2005年11月10日 (木) 12:33 (UTC)

Okey, I think you should mention that you also made yahoo page at deletion request page which is found at http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:削除依頼/Kelvin_Tan_Wei_Lian I do not think you have to write in Japanese, you can use any of languages on this planet. On 13/Nov, I made a comment that you might have made yahoo also. I will make another comment at deletion request page.

Hi, Now I have the answer. Yahoo has copyright on yahoo page, even if you submitted it. And you no longer have copyright over the content. This is the reason. So, you have to make the page from scratch. I can help if necessary.

I translated en:Manchukuo National Airways (Manshukoku Koku KK or Manshukoku Koku Kaishu) into de: (German). There was not official English name for that airline.
But... Manchukuo National Airways is a mistake.
Manchukoku National Airways is right.('chu' is nearly Chinese, Japanese pronounce 'syu')
And I think Mansyukoku Airlines is better than Manchukoku National Airways.
Because en:Japan Airlines was run by Japanese Gorvernment, but it was called such.

kido (honkakubo ibun)[編集]

Konijiwa,

In the Movie "Death of a Temaster", based on the story "Honkakubo Ibun" by Mr. Inoue is cited a poem (KIDO) from a scroll of the Kampaku Taiko sama. It goes: The leaves has fallen down from the tree, the air in autumn is cold and clear, the educated man of virtue will leave the zen-temple, hopefully he soon returns and tells what moves his heart. (Sorry for that insufficient translation) Can anybody get me the japanese text in Kanji and in latin writing?

I used the german translation of the KIDO in the German Wikipedia Article of that Movie. So it would be helpfull if somebody could get me the support.

Fidel Castro having terminal cancer?[

I'm just curious, but where in the world did such information come from? To my own understanding, there is "one" news article, by the TIME, that Fidel has terminal cancer (and there isn't even an actual official inteligence report we've seen, but rather "someone" in the government talking to the reporter).

Wouldn't it be kind of silly to jump to conclusion and use it in the sentence of a headline?

Barom One[編集]

Hello. I want to create a few wikilinks to this Anime/Manga series (Vol. 2 of Battle Royale, for instance, has a reference to it relating to character Yumiko and Yukiko; and the Portuguese language article on Ichiro Mizuki mentions that series as well. As far as I may tell there is currently not even a stub on the series either on Portuguese or in English. I will be very grateful if anyone can create such articles in Portuguese and/or English, even as a stub. I personally believe that even stubs may be of great help, especially when they include the adequate Interwikis; the very presence of an article encourages users to fill in details and add and correct existing information. On a completely unrelated matter, I would like to know of any Wikipedia-acceptable Wolf's Rain images that you may find. Thanks!

is this a verifiable article?[編集]

We have a deletion going on at en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lotion-Play which will probably be deleted very soon because it is difficult to verify this article in English. I have made a temporary backup at en:User:Coelacan/Lotion-Play (warning: adult content) and if anyone here on the Japanese Wikipedia could help with sourcing the article, that would be great. Also helpful would be to translate the article over to Japanese and try to source it here using Japanese language sources. That would be a start. Or if this article already exists here and I do not see it, please point me to it. Thanks!

You should be able to find many references to ローションプレイ on the websites of major Japanese porn studios and magazines. I don't know if they will constitute good sources though.
Thank you. Using google, I can see that they're out there. But the article is now deleted, because as readers of the English encyclopedia generally do not read Japaese, it was very difficult to determine what these references were and whether they should be considered verifiable. They probably would be considered good sources if they were used first in an article here. Where can I request for an article on ローションプレイ to be created on the Japanese encyclopedia? Or can someone please make the request for me at the appropriate place?
I'm curious if this "Lotion-Play" differs in any substantive way from the services offered at en:Soaplands. (Also another point of curiosity regarding the signatures I see here in the chatsubo; I notice that the dates, like 2007年1月16日 are followed by (...) and so far I fire, water, and sun. Those are days of the week?) -- en:User:JimD

Template:

I've been trying to update some information on non-Japanese universities, but it seems like Template:大学 won't work, because it contains non-modifiable references to 日本 (Example: User:エリック・ウィース/Yale_broken contains the bare minimum template). Now, fr:Université d'Oxford uses fr:Template:Université successfully, es:Universidad de Bolonia uses es:Template:Universidad successfully, and en:University of Tokyo uses en:Template:Infobox_University successfully, so why can't イェール大学 use Template:大学? Has this already been discussed somewhere? My Japanese is pretty bad, but I'm willing to try using it if there's a reasonable chance of getting something changed... Thanks!

It seems that the Template:大学 is being specialized for Japanese universities, and it includes introduction section "{}({}、英称:{})は、{}に本部を置く日本の{}大学である。..." as the part of the template. I don't know why it is to be so (sorry!), but discussion about this problem seems starting at here.
The name of the template is obviously an misnomer since the Japanese Wikipedia is only an encyclopaedia written in Japanese language and not meant to be an encyclopaedia for the Japanese people. It should be renamed to something like "Template:大学 (日本)," and create a more generic template in Template:大学.
It looks like there's a fairly simple technical fix: define a country variable that defaults to "日本", and then condition on the country variable. I figured that I'd post it as a suggestion, rather than just going in and making the change, since maybe it breaks something (or some policy) that I'm unaware of...
...and a related translation question: what's the difference between "創立" and "大学設置"? Does the former refer to the beginning of operation, and the latter refer to incorporation? Would it be fair to say, then, that Oxford has a "創立" in the 11th century, but a "大学設置" of 1231 (when a papal bull recognized it as a corporation)? Or is "大学設置" being used to refer to some uniquely Japanese legal concept, like government accreditation? Thanks!

I think the "new chapters" you mentioned is "真説 ボボボーボ・ボーボボ". It has continued from March 2006. Actually, I don't read shonen magazine, so I got such kind of information in the article of jawikipedia.
Oh, but you put shintetsu bobobo, that is the continuation of the manga. But I want to know about continuation of tv serie that was stopped in chapter 76 Haitike 2007年1月23日 (火) 06:55 (UTC)
Umm, I see. According to Article of Wikipedia, there is no continution of tv series. This article also says that there are some reasons that makes it difficult to restart tv series. One of that is that its manga series is so violent to children, that writers had to cut out such kind of scenes. The difference between tv and manga bored its funs. And, criticism by PTA may affected its break. The article also says writer realized how it difficult to restart. I also googled to pick information up, but couldn't found any information.--Tomo_suzuki 2007年1月25日 (木) 06:47 (UTC)
Thanks. I will quit the wrong information of spanish wikipedia.

Moved picture[編集]

Hello,

a few days ago I found the wonderful picture of a plant named "Pinguicula ramosa" in the Japanese Wikipedia (named Koushinsou.JPG). As I wrote an article on it in the German Wikipedia, I have uploaded it to the Commons as Image:Pinguicula ramosa.jpg.

Regrettably I do not speak Japanese and so I was not able to mark the local picture as deletable. I would be grateful, if somebody would be so nice to delete it (thus it isn't present twice). Furthermore I would ask you to add an interwiki-link to our German article de:Pinguicula ramosa, again I am unable to do this myself due to my lacking knowledge of Japanese. Thank you and best regards, de:Benutzer:Denis Barthel, 2007年3月24日 (土) 19:51 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice. I sent a message to Anonymous Powered about your compliments. In regard of the deletion of Koushinsou.jpg, when the original file is released under GFDL by the author, (I think) the policy of Japanese Wikipedia does not allow to delete it even the same image exists on the Commons, unless requested from the original author. If I am wrong, someone correct it, please!

Musya - the article on EN[編集]

I wrote an article about an obscure video game called "Musya," known in Japan as "Gōsō Jinrai Densetsu Musya"

I need help with clarifying the Japanese names of the levels (See en:Musya) - I would also like to know the character that is used for the "Health" and "Pause" screens (See http://www.geocities.com/viciouskatanaguy/PauseHealth.PNG )- I will upload screenshots of the characters soon...

The game is very obscure, and little information about the Japanese version of the game is available in English, so i appreciate as much help as I can get :)

Also, I found: http://memo2.up.seesaa.net/temp/musya.html#story

Does Shizuka (the maiden who is kidnapped) have kanji? Or is she just known by the hiragana?

I would also like the characters for the monster defeated scene: http://www.geocities.com/viciouskatanaguy/MusyaMonsterDefeated.PNG

I see the characters for "health" and "defeated" already on the en article. For pause, it would be "一服" (break). According to the page you've shown, Shizuka seems to be written only in hiragana.

Request for change to page to substitute a GIF with an SVG[編集]

I have updated a GIF image in Commons that is used by a Japanese page to an SVG and I'd like someone to change the link in the page to use the SVG image instead of the GIF image. I don't know Japanese so I wouldn't be able to tell what I was editing as everything appears as "?". The page is サッカーのフォーメーション and in checkusage it is listed as

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B5%E3%83%83%E3%82%AB%E3%83%BC%E3%81%AE%E3%83%95%E3%82%A9%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A1%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3?uselang=en

The image being used is called image:3-5-2_2.GIF and the identical SVG image is image:3-5-2_2.svg so if someone can correct the page to do the svg replacement that would be helpful. Rfc1394 2007年8月7日 (火) 04:58 (UTC) (Paul Robinson, en:User:Rfc1394)

Help [French conductor Jean-Paul Penin][編集]

Hello from Paris ! I'm trying to create a page abour French conductor Jean-Paul Penin, as it has already been done in 7 other languages. The Japanese page seems not to be quite OK, to meet Japanese standarts. On my request, I receive mails telling me to go on a AFD page, which I have no idea what it means and where to find. Can somebody help, or look at the page to tell me exactly how to improve it ? Thanks a lot ! Claire

Bonjour, Claire! I can imagine you'd be so surprised to receive the message. I've just checked out on the AFD page. The article seems to have some problems/questions.
 • At first, we think this article seems to be translated from fr:Jean-Paul Penin, is that right?
 • In Japanese Wikipedia, you can't post the machine-translated text. It's because many machine-translation programs don't permit commercial use so we can't redistribute the article on GFDL. Some participants on AFD doubt that the text was machine-translated (I don't think so).
 • Even if you translated the fr-article by yourself, in Japanese Wikipedia, when translating from the Wikipedia article of other languages, you have to show that it was translated. Concretely, the description "translated from fr:Jean-Paul Penin" is needed in the 編集内容の要約 (Editting Summary) field. As the editting-summary field can't be corrected, the article may be deleted. After deletion, you can post the article again, with the editting-summary description.
So, if you yourself translated the article, could you save your text to your local hard-drive, in preparation for re-posting? Thank you for your cooperation.

Bonsoir, Happy B, and thanks a lot, indeed, now everything's clear. I did'nt tranlate the article myself, I'm just the maestro's assistant. You're right, a Japanese speaking gentleman did translate from the french JPP. It was not a machine ! I have it on my hard disk, so I paste it again right away with the "translated from fr:Jean-Paul Penin" mention. Cheers, Claire

Looking for information in Japanese for a series of articles on English Wikipedia[編集]

Hi, I am trying to expand Anime/Manga related articles on English Wikipedia but I need help from a Japanese speaking person to add material from Japanese sources.

For now my focus is mostly for the articles on en:Oh My Goddess! Megami-sama!). More specifically articles on the featured list "en:List of Oh My Goddess episodes". I want to start with the article en:You're a Goddess?.

A concern was raised that the articles in question did not have adequate out of universe material such as information on the production or information on the cultural references such as the reception it received. Information on ratings, awards a particular episode received would also be a helpful addition.-- ちぃ? 2007年8月29日 (水) 10:25 (UTC)

Crayon Shin-chan English-language links[編集]

This was posted on ZERO's talk page regarding his removal of Shin-chan links: Why did you remove the Crayon Shin-chan English links? Everything I put was official (i.e. sanctioned by companies that hold the rights to Shinchan - YES, that Myspace is official as FUNimation, the US licensor to Shinchan, owns and controls that Myspace) - I am also posting this to Chatsubo.

As for funnimation link, it says "We're sorry, but due to your geographic location, we cannot allow you to gain access to this content" when accessed from Japan. [7] As for the Myspace page, how do you know that it's official?
It is official as it is one of the external links from the Shin-chan website - Aside from the Wikipedia article, the other linked stuff belongs to FUNimation - As for the actual FUNimation stuff, I'll see if I can get around the geo-blocking. I'd have to find a proxy that is from another country. WhisperToMe 2007年11月2日 (金) 23:46 (UTC) - EDIT: I guess the way a Japanese can see the FUNi site is by using a proxy in the USA. If it is not easily accessible from Japan, though, I would remove the link. I did not know about this before...
And I do not think that those links are essential to the article. It's a Japanese manga/anime... Let me put it this way. Do you think the English WP needs a Japanese external link on Bugs Bunny?
If it is official, I do not see the reason why not. If it is a fansite, then I would not link. Also, the myspace has a "check out my site" link - leading to the official FUNi site. I do not know exactly which FUNi staffers control the Shin-chan Myspace, but I know that it is operated by FUNimation, which has the Shin-chan license.
By that logic, you're implying that each Wikipedia in different languages should have external link in every languages if there's a official site to it. That's not a very practical way to provide links in an encyclopedia article. Moreover, WP:EL tells us to avoid links in languages other than Japanese since many of the readers would not benefit from the links.
Aside from the Japanese (and in some cases, English), a lot of anime series do not have official sites. Asahiko, I was not aware of the rule of the Japanese EL. A way around it could be to use the sites to reference sections which mention name changes in other countries.

A litre of Tears / 1 Litre no Namida film - shown on an airline[編集]

I know that Continental Airlines aired the film in May 2007 on flights from the USA to Japan: http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/inflight/entertainment/films/mca_grid_200705.pdf

This should be stated in the article about the movie.

For what reason? Is that such a special thing?--Aotake 2007年12月4日 (火) 14:48 (UTC)
That might have been the only English translation of the movie (As I cannot find it on Amazon) - AFAIK Continental Airlines was the only group to subtitle the film in English.
Replying to your erased comment, no, I do not think it notable. So many movies are shown in so many flights, and listing them up seems limitless and futile to me. At any rate, I found out that at least AA had shown it on their inflight program. United may have had too, but all I could find online is that they had it on their First class video program. It is highly possible that other airlines had it on their inflight entertainment as well. I do not think it is fair to mention only Continental.
I wish there was a way to find out who translated the film. - I'll mention United on the English page. If the two airlines had two different translations, that could be notable not that they were shown in flight, but because the translations were created for airliner use and nothing else (if that is the case) WhisperToMe 2007年12月6日 (木) 10:07 (UTC)

Japan Airlines Flight 123: Ken or Takeshi ?[編集]

I notice that there are two separate articles about JL123 give two different names to one of the passengers.

- Both clearly refer to the same person - But which name is correct? Or is one name a nickname?

In Japan, it isn't unusual for a name to have multiple readings. I bet the person's name to be 宮島 健; if that was the case, both the readings are valid and equally common for the character 健. I tried googling "宮島健 みやじま jal" but nothing showed up, so no way to tell unless a resource showing the name in kana turns up.

His name in kanji is 美谷島健. According to this page, its reading is "Ken" (but I'm not sure that the information is correct).--Hachikou 2008年2月3日 (日) 02:04 (UTC)

I do not know Japanese. Having said that, by using Google Translator and by checking external links I found the Atomic Betty article's grammar structure to be so simple that I simply swapped Canada for the USA and the title to make a one-sentence stub for this American show, ロッコーのモダンライフ.

Clearly there is more info to be conveyed. And I have a source stating that it aired in Japan at some point. It just needs a bit more fleshing out.

User:COCKY tagged the article for speedy deletion as "less than what comprises a definition". Just my two cents, but I suggest you learn the language better before you start writing articles.

Term for "Internationalization in Japan" or something similar[編集]

I'm doing research on the how Japan is becoming Internationalized, but because this is a rather vague topic, I'm looking for the actual term in Japanese which may lead onto such things.

For example, some topics in regards to this might be:
1. Teaching English to Primary School kids in Japan (from Grade 1)
2. The number of overweight people in Japan
(Katakana-go's Influence)
4. America/Western influences on Japan (e.g. Fast Food, Mobile Phones)
5. The amount of English used in Japan (e.g. At train stations for tourists, can relate to Katakana-go, JPOP, Pop Culture, etc.)
And so on.
Opinions are also sought, and I would greatly appreciate any links to articles (within/outside of Wikipedia) relating to these points. Thank you!

Internationalisation ⇒国際化⇒the English term basically translated. Try using "Jim Breen's online dictionary"

Re: Key[編集]

Okay, so I have been redirected here by 利用者:おはぐろ蜻蛉 regarding edits on Key. This administrator blocked the page for a period of 7 days on April 1st due to the announcement of a new game, Rewrite, the company is making. However, no edit warring was going on, and as far as I can tell from his comments is that he blocked it because the information was recently released. What I can't understand is why this is so since, presently, the Japanese Wikipedia is the only Wiki with an article about Key which has not reported on the new game, so you can imagine how ridiculous I think it is for the Japanese wikipedia to be the only one not reporting on a Japanese game. Also, the game was confirmed not to be an April Fool's joke, but even after this was revealed, the admin still did not unblock the Key article, nor allow the article Rewrite to even be created despite there being information released pertaining to the staff.

So, I would like to know 1) Why he blocked the Key article for 7 days despite there being no edit warring and 2) Why he blocked the creation of the article on Rewrite.--十八 2008年4月4日 (金) 21:35 (UTC)

JA WP hates being a news site instead of an encyclopedia. (There is a guideline against it.) Articles on new products, especially future products, are very strongly discouraged. Because of the same reason, you often see the episode lists of currently ongoing Anime on EN WP, but not on JA WP.

Re: WP:SE[編集]

Back last April, I came across the WP:SE guideline after an administrator locked both Key and Rewrite. Key was unlocked a week later, but Rewrite remained locked for over three months due to the guideline. However, a few days ago, Rewrite was unlocked, along with a bunch of other articles that were initially locked for the same reason. What I would like to know is, why was the article (and the many others) unlocked if WP:SE still stands?--十八 2008年7月20日 (日) 05:27 (UTC)

Hello, from what I can see on the log for Rewrite, it was unlocked primarily because the lock decision was made during the test run period for the WP:SE rule. I would like to leave it unlocked just because apparently there seems no appropriate period of locking (e.g. official launch date of the game). If somebody is feeling like to submit something like the old deleted edition (just consisting of the title and publisher, main staffs), I would like to advise not to do that right now, since it is likely to be deleted again in regard to something else (like Wikipedia:即時削除の方針) anyway.
But I don't get it. Even if it was during the test period, doesn't the same criteria still stand, or if they don't, they why was the article locked in the first place? Plus, you talk about an appropriate period of locking, but what's appropriate of locking an article when information could be presented, especially if in the future it will be a notable article in it's own self, even if right now it doesn't even have little more than a production staff and a title.--十八 2008年7月21日 (月) 09:14 (UTC)
According to WP:SE, the game Rewrite which is announced but not yet on the shelves should either have enough account not to be considered as an advertisement, or be deleted if it is impossible. I (hopefully not the only one) consider a game article with just title and production staff list to be nothing but an advertisement. From a quick research, I myself got an impression that it is almost impossible to make that article encyclopedic at this moment. Thus, that article being deleted makes sense. I don't know the precise rational behind the initial locking (maybe it was just a test of the measure you take in such case), but speaking in general, if you can leave an article unlocked without any immediate problem, we would like to leave it so. WP:SE just says that you should ask for locking if there is a possibility of edit war.
Thank you for the clarification.--十八 2008年7月25日 (金) 22:12 (UTC)

Article repeatedly deleted[編集]

As I write about the particular subject at the English Wikipedia, I have noticed that 劇場版 仮面ライダー電王&キバ クライマックス刑事 has been deleted four times because of inappropriate edits by IP address editors. While I have written its article over at the English Wikipedia, I find it odd that no registered user has written about the film here, particularly because it was the number one film its opening weekend.

My grasp of Japanese is not strong enough to write the article here in Japanese, so perhaps a member fluent enough in English can read the English Wikipedia page and write a proper page for the Japanese Wikipedia. The page is here, and my username is the same at en.wp as it is at ja.wp.—Ryulong (竜龍) 2008年5月27日 (火) 08:24 (UTC)

Edit war[編集]

A Dutch user with IP address 86.83.155.44 (D.A. Borgdorff) once translated about 35 years ago a book from French in Dutch. For a proof (trial print) about 30 books were printed and he confirmed on the nl-wiki that none of these Dutch books can be found in any library, not even in The Netherlands. In the last few months he has been adding references to his book and the French original in about 15 language versions of Wikipedia for the articles about en:de Broglie hypothesis like the Ukraine Wikipedia, the Hebrew Wikipedia, the Italian Wikipedia, etc. Also on the Japanese Wikipedia he added in February in ド・ブロイ波 a reference to that French book and his Dutch translation. The French author is almost unknown (not even the French or English Wikipedia have an article about him) and the topic of the book is not really about de Broglie hypothesis. Early March that was removed by the Japanese user Fryed-peach [8]. But he restored it and he did so 3 times within 24 hours (March 4 at 20:59 JST [9], March 5 at 10:03 JST [10] and March 5 at 10:25 JST [11]) and therefore violated the Wikipedia:Three-revert rule. I informed him he violated that rule and asked him three questions on the talk page of the article Since he didn't reply I restored the article several days later to the version after the revert of Fryed-peach.

He recently started adding a reference to that French book in the Japanese article (this time without mentioning his translation). He still didn't answer any of the questions on the talk page like "2. Why do you think the document written by René-Louis Vallée is very relevant here? He is not so famous and the topic of that document seems not to be the same as this article." Since he is recently doing similar things on about 15 language versions of Wikipedia of that article (often with a reference to his own Dutch translation although Chinese or Ukraine readers most likely cannot read Dutch and the Dutch book is not available to the public anyway) several wikipedians have reverted his crosswiki activities. He doesn't mind starting edit wars all over and as a result off these (near) edit wars already in at least 4 languages the article has been protected

Also on the Japanese article he has again started an edit war (5 reverts in about 30 hours [12]). I would like some admin to take some action like blocking or protecting the page.

Update: After 2 more reverts by this user, the Japanese article is now semi-blocked by 'Ks aka 98'. For now that solved the problem I hope.

CVR split[編集]

Hi,

Please see my comment at ノート:ボイスレコーダー#CVR split. Can you please help me with this? Thanks in advance!

Interwiki[編集]

I want to bring up the interwiki issue with the following articles, I didn't carry out the change myself because I don't know Japanese, could only figure out from dictionaries:

 • en:Home - It is the place you live, another word for "residence". It was interwikied to 家庭, but "家庭" is clearly closer to the word "family".
 • en:Family - It is a simpler word for "household". Household is more technical. Currently linked to 家族, but I think "家庭" is more appropriate.
 • en:Extended family - Means your family + close relatives. It is not interwiki'ed. I suggest "家族".

I have already deleted the interwiki for "home". (Someone undid it.) Now, I didn't carry out the other two changes because I am not sure if Japanese people would consider "家族" and "Extended family" the same thing.

家庭 certainly involves the concept of place, in addition to the people consisting of it. That way, it can be compatible to the description of en:Home albeit the emphasis is on the function for residency there. 家族 is usually only about people, in contrast to 家庭, and dosen't include relatives unless they live together. So it is best fit for en:Family, IMHO. It is hard to find a direct word for extended family in Japanese. There is 拡大家族, that usually refers to a consanguineous family consisting of several generations/households. 親族 fits best to the concept of kindreds in addition to the family you live with.

Who wants to write an article about this? Just a stub (not too short) will do. -ja:レンとスティンピー - en:The Ren and Stimpy Show WhisperToMe 2008年11月10日 (月) 09:24 (UTC)

Game Boy game Trip World (トリップワールド)[編集]

Hello, could someone create at least a stub for Sunsoft's Game Boy gameTrip World (トリップワールド, en:Trip World)? Two articles already link to it. The English article offers enough information for making a stub. Thanks in advance!

Here is the basic framework for the article, it just needs a short stub-worthy text now, please.

Article has been created

Much thanks to the user who created the article!

Greetings. I have just finished merging en:Preconditioned conjugate gradient method into en:Conjugate gradient method and changed the former into a redirection to a section in the latter on the English Wikipedia. The original article had an interwiki link to its Japanese counterpart, which seems to be just a translated version. I would suggest that somebody here do a similar merge for not only cross-language consistency but that the article contained erroneous claims as discussed in en:Talk:Preconditioned conjugate gradient method.—Kxx 2009年3月24日 (火) 19:51 (UTC)

Your cause seemed right and obvious enough to me, so I did edits which basically follow the ones done at English edition. Thank you for letting us know of this.

Is there a Japanese article for en:Mizuta Masahide?[編集]

Is there a Japanese article for en:Mizuta Masahide?

There is no article about "Mizuta Masahide" in Japanese Wikipedia. But, It is mentioned about him ("水田正秀"), in 近江蕉門 (his pupils in Shiga Prefecture), and in 竜が丘俳人墓地. According to the articles, Mizuta is the owner of the trading company "Ise-ya". Mizuta was a patron (and a pupil) of Matsuo Bashō when Bashō was stay in Gichu-ji Temple.

Good articles[編集]

Hi,

Is there a category including all the good articles (or their talk pages) ? This seems to be empty : Category:おすすめ記事.

Thanks.

There seems to be no category for such purpose, but there is a comprehensive listWikipedia:おすすめ記事 of all the (previous and current) Good Articles. BTW please do not confuse this with Featured Articles which are listed on Wikipedia:秀逸な記事.
