ジグムント・バウマン

ジグムント・バウマン（Zygmunt Bauman、1925年11月19日 - ）は、ポーランド出身の社会学者。イギリス・リーズ大学およびワルシャワ大学名誉教授。「立法者と解釈者」、「造園管理人と猟場番人」、「固定化と液状化」といったメタファーを巧みに用いて今日のポストモダン社会の考察を深めるマルチ・リンガルの知識人として知られる。

略歴

• 1925年 ポーランド西部ポズナニの貧しいユダヤ人の家に生まれる。
• 1939年 第二次世界大戦の勃発、一家はソビエトに逃れ、当地の大学で教育を受ける。
• 1943年 ポーランド陸軍に入隊
• 1944年 ベルリン侵攻に参加、その後大尉、少佐に上りつめる。このとき、ポーランド労働党の党員となる。
• 1953年 反ユダヤ主義の高まりにより陸軍からの除隊命令、陸軍除隊。
• 1954年 ワルシャワ大学哲学・社会科学部講師、博士号取得
• 1961年 博士号取得、雑誌『社会学研究』の編集長を務める。
• 1966年 ポーランド社会学協会の理事長に就任。
• 1967年 イスラエルとエジプトの六日戦争の余波により、ユダヤ迫害の余波が及び、海外敵対勢力の嫌疑をかけられる。

→反ユダヤ主義者の証明として、バウマンは労働党の党員証を返還。

• 1968年 ポーランド青年に反動的影響を与え、腐敗させたという理由でワルシャワ大学から解雇される。その後、イスラエル、カナダ、アメリカ、オーストラリアを経て、イギリスにいたる。
• 1971年 リーズ大学の社会学教授として教鞭をとる。
