香港大学（ほんこんだいがく、英語: The University of Hong Kong、公用語表記: 香港大學）は、香港島・薄扶林に本部を置く香港の公立大学である。1911年に設置された。英語で授業を行う香港最古の大学であり、アジアの最良の大学のひとつとされる。

香港島西部にメインキャンパスを有し、新界にも研究所がある。2008年度の在校生21,652人、教職員数6,539人であった。2010年現在の学長は徐立之教授。名誉総長は行政長官が務め、行政長官が欠けたときは行政長官代行が名誉総長代行を兼ねる。大学の略称は港大（こうだい）、HKU。

世界の主要な大学を評価する「2010年度クアクアレリ・シモンズ（Quacquarelli Symonds、QS）世界大学ランキング」によると、上位200位中23位 (日本の東京大学は24位)。また、同QS によるアジア諸国の研究事情、及び大学の国際化を考慮した「アジアの大学ランキング」では、2010年度もその前年に引き続き1位となった (東京大学は5位)。^[1]

別の大学評価の世界的指標である The Times Higher Education による「世界大学ランキング 2010-2011」では21位であり（東京大学は26位）、アジア圏の大学ではトップである。^[2]

著名な卒業生には、中華民国を成立させた孫文がいる。

[編集] 沿革

1877年に創立された香港医科大学（香港西医書院）を前身とし、1910年当時の香港総督サー・フレデリック・ルガードによって総合大学として再編された。 3月16日を創立記念日とする。1911年大学として認可され、1912年に最初の入学式を行なった。当時は医学部、工学部、文学部の3学部だけだったが、現在は教育、法律、経営、人文、社会科学など10学部に発展している。第二次世界大戦中、日本軍の占領下では閉鎖されていた。

香港は中国返還以来大陸との交流が盛んであり、近年では大陸からの留学生が香港で就職するケースが多くその40%が香港で就職している。^[3]
