ジョージ・ワシントン大学 (The George Washington University 略 GWU) はコロンビアン・カレッジ (The Columbian College) として1821年設立されたアメリカ合衆国ワシントンD.C.にある私立大学である。

キャンパスは、ワシントンD.C.の中心部にあり、ホワイトハウスから徒歩10分の場所にある。道を挟んで世界銀行や国際通貨基金などの建物と隣接する。ジョージタウン大学、アメリカン大学と並び、「首都三大学」と呼ばれる。学生数は、学部生が10,813人、大学院生が13,718人と院生の方が多い。
U.S.Newsの大学ランキングでは、全米50位にランクされる。ワシントンという土地柄、法学政治学・国際関係に強く、国際ビジネスは全米で5位、ロースクールは全米で20位程度にランクする[1]。また国際関係論は、『フォーリン・ポリシー』誌による20カ国の大学ランキングでは、学部では9位、修士では7位、博士課程は15位となっている[2]。
卒業生は政界や世銀・国連など国際機関に進む者が多い。
歴史[編集]
「首都に国民が広く学べる大学を作りたい」というジョージ・ワシントンの遺志を継ぎ、1821年、アメリカ連邦議会の認可に基づき設立された。
