世界青年学生祭典

1951年東ベルリン大会の開会式

世界青年学生祭典（せかいせいねんがくせいさいてん、World Festival of Youth and Students）は世界民主青年連盟（WFDY、略称世界民青連）と国際学生連盟（IUS、略称国際学連）が不定期に1度、「反帝・反戦・平和・親善・連帯」をスローガンに開催する世界規模の祭典である。日本では平和友好祭と訳されることもある。

沿革 [編集]

第1回大会は、1947年にチェコスロバキアのプラハで開催された。以降、2年に1回開催されたが、1968年の第9回大会以降は5年ごとになり、第14回大会は8年のブランクを経て開催された。以降、16回大会までは4年に1度の開催であった。

オリンピックやユニバーシアードがスポーツのみの大会なのに対し、スポーツ・文化芸術・政治の各プログラムがあり、「社会主義国におけるユニバーシアード」の異名を持つ。ただし、その開催期間は約1週間と著しく短く、また参観者の娯楽性もオリンピックなどに比べて低いとされる^[1]。

2009年の第17回大会はベラルーシのミンスクで開催予定だったが^[2]、2008年に開催を取り下げた^[3] ^[4]。結局、2010年になって南アフリカのプレトリアで開催された。
