アメリカ合衆国の超高層建築物（アメリカがっしゅうこくのちょうこうそうけんちくぶつ）では、アメリカ合衆国（アメリカ）にある超高層ビルについて説明する。超高層ビル一般については超高層建築物を、アメリカの建築全般に関してはアメリカ合衆国の建築を参照のこと。
概要
アメリカ合衆国は世界の超高層ビルの先駆けとなった国で、大都市の多くは超高層ビルが集積しており、独特のスカイラインを形成している。特にシカゴは、19世紀後半の大火により市街地が灰燼に帰したことで、建築家たちの格好の市場となったことが大きく関与している。また、地震が非常に少なく、岩盤が強固であるニューヨークのマンハッタン島も、グローバル化に伴う経済、金融などの発展により、世界屈指の超高層建築密集地となった。また、西の玄関口であるロサンゼルス、サンフランシスコなどにおいても、戦後の人口肥大に伴い産業が爛熟し、金融、ビジネスを初めとする多数の超高層ビルが密集している。
その他、拠点都市、世界都市としても知られるシアトル、ヒューストン、ダラス、デンバー、ミネアポリス（ツインシティを形成するセントポールも超高層建築物は多い）、アトランタ、マイアミ、フィラデルフィア、ボストンもダウンタウンには超高層建築物が密集する。その他、オレゴン州ポートランド、サンディエゴ、フェニックス、カンザスシティ、オースティン、セントルイス、ニューオーリンズ、メンフィス、ナッシュビル、インディアナポリス、コロンバス、シンシナティ、ルイビル、ミルウォーキー、デトロイト、クリーブランド、ピッツバーグ、ボルティモア、シャーロット、タンパなどアメリカ合衆国の主要な各都市で超高層ビルを見ることができる。ビジネスビル以外ではマイアミ、ホノルル、フォートローダーデール、ラスベガス、アトランティックシティなどに、超高層のホテルやマンションが林立する風景を目にすることができる。
また中規模都市においてもオクラホマ州タルサ（都市圏人口100万未満の都市で最も100M以上の超高層建築が多い）、デモインの801グランド (801 Grand)（都市圏人口60万人に対し、100M以上の超高層建築を６件持っている） 、アラバマ州モービルのRSAバトル・ハウス・タワー (RSA Battle House Tower) 、ニューヨーク州オールバニのエラスタス・コーニング・タワー (Erastus Corning Tower) など、超高層ビルが建てられている都市が見られる。
超高層ビル発祥のシカゴでは、1890年代以降、ニューヨークにビルの高さ争いでは世界一の座を奪われ続けていたが[1]、アメリカの大手GMS（ゼネラル・マーチャンダイズ・ストア）チェーン、シアーズの本部でSOM設計のモダニズム建築であるシアーズ・タワー（442.3m、現ウィリス・タワー）が1973年に完成すると、世界一の座をニューヨークから奪還した。2013年には、アメリカ同時多発テロで倒壊した1 ワールドトレードセンター（541m）が再建され、再びアメリカで最も高いビルかつ世界でも三番目に高いビルとなった。しかし、ビルの高さを比較する場合、アンテナを含めた高さよりももっとも高いフロアの屋上の高さを比較する方が一般的であり、この場合はウィリス・タワーや432 パーク・アベニューの方が高い。
20世紀の超高層ビルの建設はアメリカがトップを走っていたが、21世紀にさしかかると2004年の台北101（509 m）や2010年のブルジュ・ハリファ（828m）など、さらに巨大な超高層ビル建設プロジェクトは、もはやアメリカではなく、主に中東や中国で進行している。
各都市の超高層建築物
シカゴ

世界で超高層ビルが最も早期に建設され始めたのはシカゴである。1884年にウィリアム・ル・バロン・ジェニーが設計したホーム・インシュランス・ビル（54.9m）が建てられ、これは世界で初めて"鋼製"の鉄骨構造を用い、世界の超高層ビルの最も先駆けとなるものであった。1871年、木造建築が殆どであったシカゴに火災が起き、更にミシガン湖からの強風で大火災になったのをきっかけに、シカゴ市は建築材料として耐火性の高い石や鋼鉄の素材を奨励し、シカゴのビル建設はここに始まった。
1889年にはオーディトリアム・ビル （Auditorium Building：106m）が建設され、これは世界一の高さの超高層ビルとなった。
またシカゴの初期の高層建築の重要な貢献には、鋼鉄製の柱・梁によってガラス窓の面積を大きく取ることを可能としたことがあげられる。これを実現した1895年のリライアンス・ビル（Reliance Building：61m）はガラス張りの壁面を持つ近代的デザインの高層ビルの端緒となった。
ニューヨーク

その後、ニューヨークのマンハッタン地区でも超高層ビルが相次いで建設され始め、遂には超高層ビル群を形成する様になり、これらは『摩天楼』(Skyscraper)と呼ばれ同国を象徴する景観のひとつとなる。マンハッタンの超高層ビル群は主に二箇所に分かれて形成されている。一つ目はマンハッタン島南部のウォール街などを抱えるロウワーマンハッタン地区、二つ目はマンハッタン島中央部のミッドタウン地区である。
1870年に建設されたエクイタブル生命ビル（40m）は初めて実用的なエレベータを設置したオフィスビルであり、これを高層ビルの端緒とする見方もある。1884年にはジョージ・B・ポスト設計のニューヨーク商品取引所ビル（New York Produce Exchange Building：68m）が建設され、これは"鉄製"の鉄骨構造を用いていた。ニューヨークで初めて100mを越えた超高層ビルは、1890年のジョージ・B・ポスト設計のニューヨークワールドビル（106m）である。1894年のマンハッタン生命保険ビル（106m）、1899年のパークロウビル（119m）、そして1908年のシンガービル（187m）は建設当時は世界一の高さとなった。
ニューヨークに建設された超高層ビルの種類は年代により異なり、1900年代から1920年代に掛けて作られたものは主にキャス・ギルバートによるウールワースビル（241.4m）やナポレオン・ルブラン（Napoleon Le Brun）によるメトロポリタン・ライフ・タワー（213.4m）等に見られるネオ・バロック様式である。
1920年代から1940年代にかけて作られたものはウィリアム・ヴァン・アレン（William Van Allen）によるクライスラービル（318.9m）やシュリーブ・ラム・アンド・ハーモン（Shreve Lamb&Harmon）によるエンパイアーステートビル（381m）に代表されるアール・デコ様式であった。
その後1950年代から1970年代までにものはオスカー・ニーマイヤーなどによる国際連合本部ビル（153.9m）やミース・ファン・デル・ローエなどによるシーグラム・ビルディング（156.9m）、SOMによるリーバ・ハウス（92m）、ミノル・ヤマサキによる世界貿易センタービル（411m）などの箱型で『インターナショナル・スタイル』とも呼ばれるモダニズム様式。
1970年代後半から1990年代にかけてはフィリップ・ジョンソンによるAT&Tビル（現：ソニープラザ、197.5m）やエドワード・ララビー・バーンズ（Edward Larrabee Barnes）によるシティグループ・センター（278.9m）、シーザー・ペリによるワールド・フィナンシャル・センター（225 m）に見られるモダニズム様式に装飾性を帯びた、ポスト・モダン様式と言ったものに分かれる。
近年、ニューヨークで建てられる超高層ビルは多様化しており、どの様式に属するかは現時点では判断し難い。しかし、主に透明的な印象を持たせるガラスを多用した建築が作られる場合が多い（ミニマリズム）。また、ニューヨークで確立された超高層ビルの建築様式は、同時に世界的な潮流となる場合も多い。また、特に2001年9月11日のアメリカ同時多発テロ以降は、ハドソン川対岸のニュージャージー州側にも、災害時業務継続や職住近接などの観点から、ジャージーシティの30ハドソン・ストリートなどの超高層ビルや超高層アパートが建つ傾向にある。
ロサンゼルス

シカゴやニューヨークに比べて土地に余裕があり、また地震の危険性が高いロサンゼルスにおいては、1970年代まで密集した超高層ビル群はなく、ほとんどの超高層ビルはそれ以降に建てられたものである。超高層ビルの多くはダウンタウンに集中しており、ダウンタウンから少し離れると超高層ビルと呼べる建物は少なくなる。また、ロサンゼルスの超高層ビルはシカゴやニューヨークには数はもとより高さでも及ばないものの、それでもかなりの高さはある。
ロサンゼルスで最も高い超高層ビルは、1989年に建てられたヘンリー・N・コブ設計のライブラリータワー（別称：US Bank Tower：310.3m）である。これは北米大陸西部では最も高いビルとなっており、アメリカ国内でも9番目、世界では21番目の高さを誇っている。
