ジミー・クリフ（Jimmy Cliff OM、1944年7月30日[1] - 2025年11月24日）は、ジャマイカ人レゲエ・シンガー。本名ジェイムズ・チェンバース（James Chambers）。1960年代初頭から音楽活動を開始していた。

略歴

ジャマイカがイギリスから独立した年でもある1962年にデビュー。同年には、「ディアレスト・ビヴァリー」を発表。同名のレストランに売り込みをかけ、レコーディング費用を捻出したというエピソードがある。

1965年に、活動の場をロンドンに移し、1967年にファースト・アルバム『ハード・ロード・トゥ・トラベル』を発表。1970年にキャット・スティーヴンスの「ワイルド・ワールド」をカヴァーし、全英8位を記録した。この曲は、後にＵＫレゲエ・シンガー、マキシ・プリーストも取り上げた。

1972年にはジャマイカの状況を描いた映画『ハーダー・ゼイ・カム（英語版）』[注 1]に主演。主題曲の「ザ・ハーダー・ゼイ・カム」のほか映画のサウンドトラック盤にも参加し、ジャマイカ、イギリスなどで有名になった[2]。1977年以降、ボブ・マーリィやサード・ワールドとともに、日本に紹介される。1978年、来日公演を行った。

1985年発表のアルバム『クリフハンガー』でグラミー賞を受賞。1980年代にはローリング・ストーンズの『ダーティ・ワーク』にゲスト参加。「トゥー・ルード」で、キース・リチャーズとのデュエットを披露。ジミーの作品『ブラック・マジック』に、元ザ・クラッシュのジョー・ストラマーがゲスト参加。

1993年、映画『クール・ランニング』の主題歌「アイ・キャン・シー・クリアリー・ナウ（英語版）」（ジョニー・ナッシュ（英語版）のカヴァー）が大ヒット。

1999年、イベント「ジャパンスプラッシュ」で来日、トリを務めた。

21世紀に入っても現役で活動を続ける。クリフの公式Instagramアカウントへの妻のラティファ・チェインバーズによる2025年11月24日付けの投稿によると、クリフは発作と肺炎により死去した。現地メディアによると、没日は同日である[3]。81歳没[4][5][6][7]。
