Tokyo Metro[編集]

Hi, I'm Mailer Diablo from the English Wikipedia. :) I'm personally interested in the Tokyo Metro, and I believe the Tokyo Metro is something that the Japanese are proud of. It seems that the articles in the Japanese Wikipedia have much more (and better) information than the ones back in English Wikipedia, so would anyone like to translate these additional information (including rolling stock articles such as this)? Hoping to hear from all of you soon. ;) - Mailer Diablo, under 203.120.68.67 2005年6月4日 (土) 16:09 (UTC)

Hello, Mr Tan here. I hardly knew any Japanese (although I can bang around with Kanji), I would be very happy if somebody is willing to translate the entire 沿革 section of 壱岐国 and 一支国 from Japanese into English. I need the content for en:Iki Province and en:Iki Island.

I also need someone to translate the entire 環境 section of 対馬島 into English as well. I would be very happy if anybody can help me.

looking for some translation[編集]

I'm hoping to help clean up the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Japan article. I'm hoping that someone can help translate the Anti-Prostitution Law (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A3%B2%E6%98%A5%E9%98%B2%E6%AD%A2%E6%B3%95) article, particularly the exact restrictions. (It is my understanding, from a long lost source that the exact act of prostitution is not persay illegal, but that solicity, pimpming, pandering, and operating a brothel are illegal. Further, that prostitution is strictly defined as genital penitration.) Osakadave 2005年8月8日 (月) 16:32 (UTC)

Translation Help[編集]

日本語が下手ですから、許してください。たった今私は改造という記事を英語に翻訳しました(Kaizo)。以下の二つの文が正しいかどうかわかりませんから、英語も読める人に相談したいんですけど。よろしくお願いします。
質問1:
和:先行する総合雑誌として「中央公論」があったが、より急進的な「改造」に押されるほどになった。
英:There were general-interest magazines such as Chuuoukouron(中央公論) established previous to Kaizo, however they began to feel pressure as Kaizo took a more radical direction.
質問2:
和:終戦後の1946年に復刊するが、経営は思わしくなく、労働争議のすえ、1955年に廃刊。
英:Publication was resumed in 1946, but management was poor, and labor troubles were ending. Kazio finally ceased publication in 1955.
--Optimistic-x 2005年11月20日 (日) 06:52 (UTC)
How about these?
質問1→ Kaizo became major as a radical opinion leader replacing the Chuuoukouron(中央公論), which was a precedent general-interest magazine for Kaizo.
質問2→Publication was resumed in 1946, but management was poor, and the labor troubles made it worse. Kaizo finally ceased publication in 1955.

ありがとうございました。そのコメントで翻訳を直しました。--Optimistic-x 2005年11月20日 (日) 08:01 (UTC)
The original Japanese sentence of 質問1 only mentions one general interest magazine Chuuoukouron that precedes Kaizo, and says that Kaizo sold more copies than Chuuoukouron despite (not because of) its radical tone. Hermeneus (talk) 2005年11月20日 (日) 08:05 (UTC)

Translation question[編集]

I came across this: 水轟黄門 on a webpage, can someone tell me what it means? I think it has to be some kind of saying where you take the different readings for each kanji to make something, but I'm not good enough at Japanese to understand that. Thanks. --194.144.114.128 2006年4月21日 (金) 10:30

It seems to be the title of a comic palody of 水戸黄門 (mito komon), a popular period drama. It reads "mitodoroki komon" (the kanji "to" (戸) is replaced by "todoroki" (轟)). --Fugue 2006年4月21日 (金) 01:44 (UTC)

The Judiasm entry in Japanese has less detail that the English entry. Most of the entries related to Judaism on the Japanese Wikipedia have much less detail, particularly the entry on American Jews (there is no corresponding article in the Japanese Wikipedia). It would be great if someone could expand the Japanese entries more.

Requesting an article[編集]

How do I request that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geelong be translated into Japanese? --Candy-Panda 2007年4月13日 (金) 12:14 (UTC)

Wikipedia:翻訳依頼 (Translation Request) guidelines require that you must have edited more than 50 times on ja to make a request, so I've requested it on your behalf. See Wikipedia:翻訳依頼#オセアニア. The TR needs a reason for requesting that page, but as of now it only says "Requested on behalf of Candy-Panda, see Chatsubo"; so if you have any particular reason why you want this article, can you state it please? --朝彦 (Asahiko) 2007年4月13日 (金) 13:37 (UTC)
Thank you very much for requesting it on my behalf! The reason I would like that article translated is that Geelong is the second largest city in the state of Victoria, Australia after its capital Melbourne, therefore being important enough to be included in the Japanese Wikipedia. It also has a sister city in Japan. --Candy-Panda 2007年4月13日 (金) 15:25 (UTC)

Translation of the death poem of Asano Naganori[編集]

Hello. Can someone please translate the death poem in the en:Asano Naganori article ? Thank you. en:User:Comte0 86.66.252.183 2007年7月18日 (水) 23:57 (UTC)

You should take a translation written by a historian, but I'm trying to show you my translation here. In literal translation, Flowers call a wind. I also more feel a vestige of the spring. I can't help it. And here is my free translation. Petal drop in blowing wind makes a kind of melancholy, but passing a spring makes me more sad. I guess that he implied he couldn't meet another spring any longer due to the death. I'd be happy if you complete the translation as a fine poem in English.--Uiweo 2007年8月6日 (月) 10:19 (UTC)
After a lot of google search, I found this page: [1]. Can anyone confirm it has the same meaning ? Thank you, Comte0 77.192.45.186 2007年10月15日 (月) 15:07 (UTC)
The page you provided seems to convey only the basic idea of the poem. It lacks many of its metaphors, and Uiweo's "free translation" is doing a better job; just my $0.02. --朝彦 2007年10月16日 (火) 05:52 (UTC)
Well, actually I think Uiweo's interpretation is rather unique. Kaze sasou hana can be interpreted as kaze "wo" hana "ga" sasou, but more generally it is read as kaze "ga" hana "wo" sasou, since the expression of "hana sasou kaze/arashi" (the wind/storm blowing away the sakura) is a standard phrase in the waka tradition. Here "sasou" should mean "takes away" rather than "calls," and generally "hana" does not mean only "flowers in general" but "blossm of sakura" (cherry blossom). Also hana yori mo nao is not comparing the melancholy evoked by the flower and that by the spring, but the cherryblossom and the poet, who are both reluctantly leaving the world. --Aotake 2007年10月16日 (火) 06:51 (UTC)

Political questions?[編集]

Hello this is User: Political Dweeb from the English Wikipedia. I came here to ask which of the two questions are possible. I want to ask some questions on a political party called Ishin Seito Shimpu/維新政党・新風 and political group called Japan Revolutionary Communist League, National Committee (Middle Core Faction)革命的共産主義者同盟全国委員会 . Is it possible for me to either put some questions on both the Ishin Seito Shimpu and Middle Core Faction here on this page that helps Non-Japanese speaking people so that someone from the Japanese Wikipedia or from Middle Core Faction and Ishin Seito Shimpu will reply to my questions?

Or would it be suitable if I showed my questions to you and then the people on the Japanese Wikipedia could translate my questions in English to Japanese so that Ishin Seito Shimpu and Middle Core Faction might understand them more? I am sorry I do not know how to speak Japanese to them so I wanted to ask you if you could help me there. Please let me know which of these options you find suitable for me to use. --以上の署名のないコメントは、62.235.226.221会話)さんが 2008-05-25T15:04:03 に投稿したものです。

Not quite sure what your intention is, but If you want to ask questions to those parties personally, I'm afraid you may have to find somewhere else, not here. User: Political Dweeb here wants to ask Japanese Wikipedia a question about translating Japanese names. After clicking on it I think it was that translation as well as the one from Google that I guessed was right but I want your clarification about what this political parties name really translates into English a because I felt you were a more authoritive souI hope my explanation is acceptable and suitable on this matter, thank you. --以上の署名のないコメントは、62.235.211.217会話)さんが 2008-07-12T10:01:05 に投稿したものです。

Japanese names[編集]

Hi! I'm a contributor of the Italian Wikipedia ( ja-1 ); I was translating a list of people from your wikipedia, and many names had not an article on your wikipedia (because they are unencyclopedic, I guess). Trasliterating them in romaji is troublesome, because I've discovered that people's kanji-names have an ambiguous romanization. Do you know a method to romanize (or to put in hiragana) kanji correctly? Are there some precise rules in your language? Thanks for replying :) - クサンダー Xander89 2008年9月25日 (木) 09:46 (UTC)

Hi, Xander89. Actually, there's no direct correspondence between Kanji and Romaji. First you have to know how to read the Kanji (one Kanji might have several way to read it), but people's names can be quite difficult to read (even for us who grew up in Japan). If it were a standard one you can find it in an appropriate dictionary, but there are too many names which are not in dictionaries. FYI, there are some 人名事典 (people's names dictionaries) available online. If you cannot find what you are looking for yourself, you'd better ask it in the relevant notes. --Makotoy 2008年9月26日 (金) 04:45 (UTC)

My only problem is that I have noticed that most of this section on the Japanese Gurre-Lieder article is written in German. I was thinking that we should translate this section into Japanese. If there are any comments or suggestions about this, let me know. Thank you, Sjones23 2008年12月16日 (火) 21:52 (UTC)

Yes, regrettably, there are many abandoned halfway-translated pages on Japanese Wikipedia. If you can finish the translation, we appreciate it very much. There aremany more for you to work on, if you want :-) --Aotake 2008年12月17日 (水) 19:40 (UTC)

Guten Tag! I am a contributor of the German Wikipedia and would be very thankful if I found somebody who is interested in translating that short article on Germany's latest Scenic Route (Ferienstrasse) into Japanese and put it in Japanese Wikipedia. This official Route of Industrial Heritage honors the first long-distance-journey by automobile performed by Bertha Benz, the wife of Dr. Carl Benz, in 1888. Vielen Dank!--Edgar Meyer 2009年4月5日 (日) 19:05 (UTC)

ベルタ・ベンツ・メモリアルルート--Freetrashbox 2009年4月9日 (木) 09:37 (UTC)
Guten Tag, lieber Freetrashbox!

Hi. I would like to request help in translating ja:坂本真綾. The English version of the article is en:Maaya Sakamoto.

So far in the english article, there's only information on her singles, albums, voices roles, radio shows. It lacks her biography and career information. I also noticed she had dubbing roles since she was 8 years old. (If I'm not mistaken)

The reason I'm requesting the translation is because my Japanese is limited (thus not being able to figure out her biography). With the information, it improves the quality of the article. Also, she was a graduate from Toyo university, where can I find reliable references for that? Suggestions/comments welcomed.

Thank you. Samantha Lim88 2009年5月12日 (火) 13:07 (UTC)

Panda Express[編集]

Someone should make an article on Panda Express. It has 2 Japan locations. WhisperToMe 2009年5月14日 (木) 02:36 (UTC)

Done (パンダエクスプレス). Unfortunately the second shop closed on January 20, 2008. There is only one shop in Japan now.--Freetrashbox2009年5月14日 (木) 15:01 (UTC)
I was interested in Hibachi-San. If you can take the photograph of Hibachi-San, please upload it to Wikipedia Commons.--Freetrashbox 2009年5月15日 (金) 22:11 (UTC)
