ウィキペディア・アジア月間がスタート！

アジアの国と地域の記事の質と量の向上を目的としたウィキペディア・アジア月間がスタートしました。
2015年11月1日0:00~2015年11月30日23:59(UTC)までに執筆された母語を話す国（日本語版では日本）以外のアジアの国と地域に関する記事（地理や歴史、人物など）が対象となります。
月間の終了まで随時参加者を募集しております。期間中にルールを満たした記事を5つ以上執筆された方には他の参加国より特別にデザインされたウィキペディアはがきが送られ、最も多くの記事を作成したウィキペディアンには「ウィキペディアアジアアンバサダー」の称号が贈られます。

Recent changes
- You can now see how many editors are using a gadget on a wiki on Special:GadgetUsage. [1]
- If you are using the mobile version of Wikipedia, you can now see Wikidata descriptions under article titles in search results. [2]
- Editing conflicts are now detected when you edit on a mobile device. Before, this did not work properly on mobile. [3]
Problems
- On October 26 the Wikimedia sites went down for ten minutes. [4]
Changes this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 3. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 4. It will be on all Wikipedias from November 5 (calendar).

Future changes
A help link will be added to Special:Search. Administrators might have to update the MediaWiki:Search-summary message to avoid two help links. [5]- Empty list items could be allowed in the future. If so, this could affect some templates. [6]

Community liaison job

My team is hiring a new Community Liaison to work with the Discovery team and our communities.
My teammates live in six different countries, and we need to talk to Wikimedia users around the world.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Wikimedian who can speak English and write at least one other language.

Wikiproject Erasmus Prize Winners

My apologies for using English here, please help translate if you are able.
Wikipedia has been awarded the Erasmus Prize 2015. This prize is awarded annually to a person or institution that has made an exceptional contribution to culture, society or social science. The King of the Netherlands will present the award on 25 November. This will create media attention which will hopefully result in plenty of new volunteers. Prior to the award ceremony we would like to write and improve articles on former Erasmus Prize winners. All 80 former laureates should be notable enough to merit an article.
Please join the project and help us provide our fellow laureates with articles.

- Superprotect has been removed. [7]
- You can now switch between the wikitext editor and the visual editor without saving. You will not lose the changes you have made. [8]
- JSON dumps of the production search indexes are now available. They can be imported to Elasticsearch. [9]
Problems
- Some translations for the Thanks and Echo extensions were missing. Translators have been asked to help and this should be solved soon. [10]

- Thumbnails of 16-bit TIFF files will be displayed properly. Before, this didn't work. [11]

ウィキメディア財団のCommunity Tech チームは熟練ウィキメディア投稿者のためのキュレーションとモデレーションのツールを作ることに焦点を当てています。もっとも有用な課題に取り組めるよう、私たちはコミュニティ ウィッシュリスト アンケートを始めようとしています。
アンケートの第1段階として、活動中の投稿者の皆さんから簡単な提案をしてもらおうと思っています。私たちに取り組んでほしい課題を説明し、なぜそれが重要かを説明してください。第1段階は2週間続きます。第2段階では提案への投票をお願いします。その後、上位10件を私たちが分析して優先度つきウィッシュリストを作ります。
このプロセスのほとんどは英語で行われますが、どのウィキメディア ウィキの人からもご提案を受け付けます。ボランティアの翻訳者にご提案を英語に翻訳してもらいたいと思っています。

Wikimania 2016 scholarships ambassadors needed
[編集]Hello! Wikimania 2016 scholarships will soon be open; by the end of the week we'll form the committee and we need your help, see Scholarship committee for details.
If you want to carefully review nearly a thousand applications in January, you might be a perfect committee member. Otherwise, you can volunteer as "ambassador": you will observe all the committee activities, ensure that people from your language or project manage to apply for a scholarship, translate scholarship applications written in your language to English and so on. Ambassadors are allowed to ask for a scholarship, unlike committee members.

Changes this week
- You can use TemplateData to indicate how you want a template to be displayed in wikitext. Tools like VisualEditor that edit templates will soon use this information. [14]
- Echo notification icons in MonoBook will look more like other icons in the theme. [15]
- The Community Tech team is doing a community wishlist survey to understand what they should be working on. They are now accepting proposals in all languages. You can create your proposal in the small box above the blue button and click it when you're done.
- Wikis can make the welcome notification link to a specific page. [16]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 17. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 18. It will be on all Wikipedias from November 19 (calendar).

Future changes
- Internet Explorer 8 will no longer have JavaScript support. You will still be able to browse and edit Wikipedia, but will not be able to use some features. This can be solved by upgrading to a newer version or switching to a different browser. The change will happen in January 2016. [17][18]

WLE 2015 執筆コンテスト（スペイン・ポルトガル）

ESEA Newsletter is out! Check out some amazing work done by Wikimedia Communities in East and Southeast Asia! Here is the summary of the Newsletter.
- 5 of East and South East Asia affiliates collaborates to host Wikipedia Asian Month to improve Asian contents in WIkimedia projects.
- Wikimedia Taiwan is helping to build the teaching materials of Kiwix, an offline Wikipedia software, for an international service group to deploy in Cambodia.
- Wikimedia Indonesia is collaborating with Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT-OSM) Indonesia in Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) in Open Content in Kalimantan Project to simultaneously map and generate content about Kalimantan.

Hi everyone,
This is to inform all Wikimedia contributors that a straw poll seeking your involvement has just been started on Meta-Wiki.
As some of your might be aware, a small group of Wikimedia volunteers have proposed a banner campaign informing Wikipedia readers about the urgent situation of our fellow Wikipedian, open source software developer and Creative Commons activist, Bassel Khartabil. An exemplary banner and an explanatory page have now been prepared, and translated into about half a dozen languages by volunteer translators.
We are seeking your involvement to decide if the global Wikimedia community approves starting a banner campaign asking Wikipedia readers to call on the Syrian government to release Bassel from prison. We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.
Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

The symbol for advanced news items has been changed. This is because the symbols were too similar. If a news item is for more technical readers it now looks like this:

Problems
- On September 29 users' skin preferences were removed by mistake on small and medium-sized wikis. This changed preferences back to Vector. Restoring all data would cause even more problems. Affected users who want to have their preference changed back globally can ask for it as a comment on Phabricator task T119206 until December 21 2015. [20]
- Some scheduled tasks were not working properly from September to recently. This meant some pages in the special pages namespace were not updated. It has now been fixed. [21]
Changes this week
- Wikinews, Wikispecies, MediaWiki.org and Meta will be able to use information from Wikidata. [22][23]
- There are no MediaWiki deployments this week (calendar).
