植物誌

植物誌（しょくぶつし、英・仏・独：flora）とは、ある地域の植物の総目録であり、植物目録 (Index) より情報量が多いのが普通である。地球規模、大陸別、国別、都道府県別、市町村別など様々な植物誌が出版されている。

概要[編集]

かつて植物誌は書籍にされたが新しいものはCD-ROMやウェブサイトでも出版されている。植物誌で包括する地域の分類は、地理学による定義によるものおよび政治上の理由によるもののいずれもありうる。

植物誌はその地域の植物を網羅したものであるから、その地域の人間にとっては、その地域の植物を同定するための手びきとなる。そのため、その手助けとなる検索表が付属することがよくある。往々にしてそれは二者択一式のもので、繰り返し植物を調査しながら選択肢のいずれがその植物に適合しているかを決定することを利用者に迫るものである。

日本[編集]

大井次三郎による『日本植物誌』は日本国内（沖縄を除く）の、その当時までに知られていたすべての高等植物について、分類体系をまとめ、それぞれの分類群について学名を整理し、種を網羅し、検索表を整備したものである。琉球列島では、『琉球植物誌』がこれに当たる地位を認められている。

いずれも情報源としては古いが、これに代わるものを作るのは大変な労力を要するため、長く使われ続けてきた。現在は岩槻邦男らの編集による英文の『Flora of Japan』が講談社サイエンティフィクより順次刊行されている。
