トマス・コーガン (医師)

トーマス・コーガン（英: Thomas Cogan、1545年？– 1607年）は、イングランドのテューダー朝の医師。

来歴[編集]

1546年頃、サマセットシャーのチャード（Chard）の生まれ。オックスフォードで教育を受けると、学士号を1562年または1563年に授かり、1563年にオリエルのフェローに迎えられると辞任する1574年まで在籍し、次に（または1575年に）マンチェスターのグラマースクールの校長を拝命する。そのマンチェスターでは医師として開業してもおり、この間に芸術修士号（1566年）、経済修士号（1574年）を認められる。

結婚は1586年には済ませており、エドモンド・トラフォード卿（Sir Edmund Trafford）を父に持つエレンと所帯を持った（エレンは資産家の未亡人で亡夫はマンチェスターのトマス・ウィロット Thomas_Willott）。

1591年から1593年の時期にはリチャード・シャトルワース卿（英語）おかかえの家庭医を務めた。ガレンほか、医学関連の資料をコレクションしており、1595年に母校オリエルの図書館に寄贈する。学長の職務は1602年にはすでに離れ、1607年6月に永眠。同月10日にマンチェスターの教会に埋葬された。サマセットシャーとマンチェスターに所有した資産の処分を生前に指定し、母校のフェロー他、教職員全員に書籍類を遺贈したほか、同じく在校生には1人当たり「4d」ずつ渡すように遺言があった。未亡人は1611年12月に死去した。
