ウオノエ科(ウオノエか、学名:Cymothoidae)は、等脚目に属する魚の寄生虫の一つ。漢字で書くと「魚の餌」である。アジタイサヨリなどの魚の口内やえら、体表面にへばりつき、体液を吸う。Cymothoa exigua は宿主の舌を失わせ、代わりに口内に寄生する[1]地中海養殖業に被害を与えている Ceratothoa oestroides を含め、約40属380種以上が分類される[2]。温暖な海域に多く、寒冷な海域ではほとんど見られない[3]。種類や宿主などについては、いまだ不明な点が多い[4][5]

特徴と生態

形態・生態的に、様々な寄生生活への適応を示している[6]。愛媛大学や総合地球環境学研究所などのチームの研究によると、ウオノエは深海に生息していた共通の祖先から進化した可能性が高い[7][8]。幼生は特定の宿主に寄生せず、様々な魚の皮膚に付着している。血液凝固の阻害物質を用いて魚の血を吸う。特定の宿主を見つけると、成体になるまで付着する。成体は特定の宿主の特定の部位に寄生し、種によって皮膚、鰭、鰓、口、筋肉などに寄生する[2]。魚の口中に寄生する種は、エラから宿主の口腔内に侵入し、にとりついて血管から吸血する。やがて舌は壊死し、舌のあった位置を本種が占領する[1]

雄性先熟雌雄同体で、幼体は雄として生まれ、近くに雌がいない場合は雌へと性転換する。雌はフェロモンを発するため、近くに雌がいる場合は性転換が出来ない。寄生された魚類には成長速度の低下、組織の損傷、貧血、死亡といった悪影響が現れる可能性がある。魚類は Ancylomenes pedersoni などのエビに寄生虫を除去してもらうことがある[9]。様々な魚類に寄生し、例えばウオノコバンは15種の魚類に寄生した記録がある[10]。偶発的に魚を食べる生物の胃から発見されることもある[11]

人との関わり

釣った魚の口からよく発見され、スーパーマーケットに売っている魚でも、まれに口中にウオノエがいる場合もある。魚が死ぬと離れるため、釣った魚をいれておいたクーラーボックスの水の中で泳いでいるのを見つけることもある。しかし人間には無害で、誤って食べても人に寄生することもない。

ウオノエ類の寄生は、魚類に、貧血・栄養障害・発育阻害などを引き起こすため、本科による漁業対象魚種の被害が世界各地で報告されている。欧米の水産分野では、ウオノエ類を魚類系群識別のための生物標識としても用いているが、日本近海におけるウオノエ類の研究は諸外国と比較するとあまり進んでいないと指摘されている[12]。ウオノエ類は寄生生活に適応した特殊な形態と生活サイクル(性転換など)を備えているため、進化生物学などの分野では研究対象として注目されている[13]

分類と種数は主にWorld List of Marine, Freshwater and Terrestrial Isopod Crustaceansによる[14]。和名は付記の無い限り山内(2016)による[12]。ここでは和名のある種を挙げる。
