Aquatic exercise is physical activity taking place while the participants are immersed in water and includes not only swimming but also walking, jogging, or dance exercise etc. in water. Aquatic exercise is a type of exercise that recently grown in popularity. Aquatic exercise has characteristics specific to water, such as temperature, resistance, hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy, and viscosity, so the physiological properties of aquatic exercise differ from those of land-based exercise. In addition, aquatic exercise poses less of a physical burden when stationary or when moving at a low or moderate speed. There is a growing body of evidence for the effect of regular aquatic exercise using systematic review and meta-analysis: exercise therapy and rehabilitation.
