[編集]世界中の熱帯から温帯の海[6]。
形態
[編集]体長2.3-2.5m、体重80-135kg[7]。背びれは尖っている[7]。側面前部に黄色～灰色の斑紋がある[6]。背中は黒く、腹側は白い[7]。下顎～胸びれへの黒いスジ、目から肛門へのスジがある。上顎・下顎とも、左右各側に40-50本の歯が生える[7][6]。
分類
[編集]以下の亜種の分類は、Committee on Taxonomy (2026) に従う[3]。
- Delphinus delphis bairdii Dall, 1873 — Eastern Pacific long-beaked common dolphin（独立種アメリカマイルカとする説もある[8][9]）
- Delphinus delphis delphis Linnaeus, 1758 — Common dolphin
- Delphinus delphis ponticus Barabash, 1935 — Black Sea common dolphin
- Delphinus delphis tropicalis van Bree, 1971 — Indo-Pacific common dolphin（独立種ネッタイマイルカとする説もあった[10]）
吻の長い個体をハセイルカD. capensisとする説もあったが[8]、D. capensisとされる個体群は多系統と考えられている[11]。Committee on Taxonomy (2026) では本種のシノニムとしており、亜種としても認められていない[3]。
生態
[編集]主に外洋に生息し[7]、イカや魚の群れを捕食する[12]。通常は50頭ほどの群れをつくるが、1,000頭以上の群れになることもある[7]。泳ぎは速い[6]。雌は6-7で性成熟し、2-3年毎に出産する[6]。
