アリス・コメディ

アリス・コメディは1920年代にウォルト・ディズニーにより制作された一連のアニメ作品。アリスという名前の実写の少女（最初はヴァージニア・デイヴィスが演じた）とジュリアスという名前のアニメーションの猫が、アニメの世界で冒険をするという内容である。日本では「漫画の国のアリス」という名前でも知られる。2024年現在でもディズニー作品に出演しているピートのデビュー作品でもある[1]。

パイロット作品『Alice's Wonderland』[編集]

ディズニー、アブ・アイワークス、そしてスタッフはミズーリ州カンザスシティの失敗したLaugh-O-Gram Studioに未だ向かいながら、Alice's Wonderlandというタイトルの1リール（10分）の短編映画を制作した。

Alice's Wonderlandはアリスがアニメのスタジオに入り、アニメが作られるのを目撃するところから始まる。アリスはその目撃したもの、アニメのキャラクターが生き生きと動いているのに驚く。その夜眠りについた後、アニメの世界に入り、全てのキャラクターが歓迎してくれるという夢を見る。アリスはライオンの群れが檻から離れ追いかけられるまで、キャラクターたちと一緒に遊んだ。

公開こそされなかったが、このショートムービーは後にアリス・コメディに登場する舞台を設定するのに役立った。これは世界を陽気な夢として確立させ、すぐにシリーズを定義する要素を導入した。アニメの世界に現実の少女を入れるというアイデアは、映画史の中のこの時点では他に類を見ないものであった。後のシリーズのデザインと声は全て、この最初の映画により設定された。

アリス・コメディシリーズの始まり[編集]

最初の映画完成後、スタジオは破産し閉鎖を余儀なくされた。ディズニーはフリーランスの写真家として働き、おじのロバートとその兄弟のロイと一緒に生活するための資金を調達した。最終的に契約はマーガレット・ウィンクラーと彼女の婚約者チャールズ・ミンツの運営するウィンクラー・ピクチャーズとの間に結ばれた。そこは近くにパット・サリバンとの契約が破談してしまっため、スタジオの中心的なフェリックス・ザ・キャットのアニメシリーズの代わりとなるものを早く見つける必要があった[2]。ディズニーはヴァージニア・デイヴィスをミズーリからロサンゼルスに連れて行き、このシリーズでスターにすると言って、彼女の家族を納得させた[3]。

作品[編集]

ウォルト・ディズニーは、このシリーズの全57作を監督・制作した。アニメーションはウォルト・ディズニーにより行われ、時々ローリン・"ハム"・ハミルトンの助けを借りて行われた。シリーズを通して4人の女優がアリスを演じており、出演内訳はヴァージニア・デイヴィスが15回、マギー・ゲイが31回、ドーン・オデイが1回、ロイス・ハードウィックが10回である。シリーズ26作目「Alice in the Jungle」には、ヴァージニア・デイヴィスのアーカイブ映像のみ収録されている。

その後の公開[編集]

このシリーズの短編映画は現在全てパブリックドメインになっている[4]。2000年、Inkwell ImagesはAlice in Cartoonland – The Original Alice Comedies by Walt DisneyをVHSで販売し、2007年にはドキュメンタリー、ポスター・ギャラリー、DVD ROMを含む10本の映画のGolden Classicsシリーズの一部としてDVDで販売された。2007年にKit Parker FilmsはAlice in Cartoonland: The 35mm Collector's Setという別のDVDを販売した。2005年と2007年にはウォルト・ディズニー・トレジャーズのシリーズの一部として10の短編が販売されている。7つは2005年に販売されたDisney Raritiesの一部として、さらに3つは2007年に販売されたThe Adventures of Oswald the Lucky Rabbitの一部として公開された。

2016年10月、アムステルダムのアイ・フィルムミュージアムが保持しているアリスの短編が世界へ向けて再リリースするために修復したことが発表された[5]。
