スーザン・ガス（Susan Gass, 1946年 - ）は、ケネス・W・ミルデンバーガー賞を受賞[2]したアメリカ合衆国の言語学者。現在、ミシガン州立大学言語学とゲルマン・スラブ・アジア・アフリカ諸語学科教授[3]。研究領域は応用言語学、特に第二言語習得論、訂正フィードバック、タスク基盤型言語学習に重点を置いている。

ガスはミシガン州立大学の英語センターのディレクター、言語教育研究センターの共同ディレクター、言語教育先端センターの共同ディレクター、そして第二言語研究博士課程プログラムのディレクターを務める。

2002年から2008年の間、国際応用言語学会の会長を務めた。

現在、『Studies in Second Language Acquisition』の編集者である[4]。

研究[編集]

Google Scholarによると、ガスの業績のうち最も引用された論考には次が含まれる。『第二言語習得論：入門（Second language acquisition: An introductory course）』、『第二言語研究：方法論とデザイン（Second language research: Methodology and design）』、『インプット、インタラクション、第二言語学習者（Input, interaction, and the second language learner）』[5]。

代表作の1つは、1985年に『Applied Linguistics』に掲載された「非母語話者同士の会話：意味の交渉のモデル（Non-native/Non-native Conversations: A Model for Negotiation of Meaning）」である。エヴァンジェリン・ヴァロニスと共同執筆されたこの論文は、母語話者と非母語話者間での会話の会話的インタラクションに焦点を当てたそれまでの研究に新たな知見を加えるものであり、英語を母語としない話者同士のインタラクションに注目している。ヴァロニスとガスは、意味の交渉が非母語話者＝非母語話者のペアで最も一般的であると指摘した[6]。
