マイケル ロング(Michael H Long、1945年-2021年)は、アメリカ応用言語学者、第二言語習得研究者メリーランド大学カレッジパーク教授

語彙文法構造、連語などの言語的要素を、有意味な文脈の中で学習者の注意の焦点を向けさせるという指導概念(フォーカス・オン・フォーム)を導入した。このアプローチは、ドリルエクササイズなどの訓練型の練習で構成されることが多い、目標言語を教える際に言語形式の習得に専念させるといった、従来の方法とは対照的である[1][2]

また、タスクに基づく言語指導法、相互作用仮説や、対面対話を重視する第二言語獲得の理論を導入したことが評価されている[3]
