Built 1953 and allocated Canadian military serial ‘19666’ but delivered directly to the RAF wearing overall natural metal. The Sabres were loaned to Britain by the USAF, despite being Canadian built airframes.
After painting at Kemble, she was allocated to 112sqn at RAF Bruggen in West Germany. In May 1954 she was transferred to 93sqn and coded ‘U’, the markings she wears today. By August 1955 she had returned to the UK and was returned to USAF charge in July 1956. She was then flown to Italy as a USAF aeroplane and joined the Italian Air Force as ‘MM19666’. After retirement in Italy, she was used for ground instruction until brought to the UK in June 1993 for the RAF Museum. Restored and repainted by The Fighter Collection at Duxford (as part of a deal in which TFC acquired Spitfire V EP120) she was complete and on display at Hendon in January 1994. Moved to Cosford in 2006, she is currently on display as part of the National Cold War Exhibition.
