My Japanese is bad, but as far as I could tell, it's claimed this comic is French. I guess it could be considered a Belgian comic, since the author and main artist, Morris, was Belgian. However, the main writer, René Goscinny, was French. However, for the Franco-Belgian market, things get muddled quite quickly, since there has been so much interaction in the comic market for the two countries since the 60's.
