ヒメバチは、膜翅目(ハチ目)細腰亜目(ハチ亜目)ヒメバチ科(Icheumonidae)に属する寄生蜂の総称。甲虫や他のハチ、チョウの幼虫や蛹を主な寄主として利用している。
非常に大きなグループで、世界で約15000種が記録されており、未記載種などを含めると60000種[1][2]から100000種[3]を超える種が生息していると考えられている。
特徴
ヒメバチの成虫は一般的に細身のハチのような体型をしているが、その体長、体色、体型などは非常に多様である[4]。ヒメバチは、ミツバチやスズメバチなどの有剣類に比べて触角の節数が多いという特徴があり、有剣類では通常13節以下であるのに対し、ヒメバチの触角はふつう16節以上ある[4][1]。
多くのヒメバチは、メスが甲虫目や鱗翅目の幼虫や蛹、クモなどに産卵し、幼虫はそれらの昆虫に寄生する[1]。そのため、多くのヒメバチのメスは、体長より長い産卵管をもっている[4]。ただし一部の種で、地面に産卵するヒメバチもいる。なおヒメバチが寄主として利用する昆虫については、Aubert (1969, 1978, 2000), Perkins (1959, 1960), Townes et al. (1965) などにまとめられている。
幼虫は、外部寄生性の種ではハチ目の他の種と同様の形態を取り、内部寄生性の種では有尾状突起を持つ[1]。幼虫が成熟すると、寄主の体内、あるいはすぐ近傍で蛹になり、羽化して成虫となる[4]。
形態的には、ヒメバチと姉妹群を形成するコマユバチ科の種と類似するが、前翅の2m-cu横脈の有無によって区別できる(ヒメバチ科は2m-cu横脈を持ち、コマユバチ科は2m-cu横脈をもたない)[5]。
分布
ヒメバチは世界中に分布するが、低緯度地方より高緯度地方で種数が多い傾向にある[6]。全世界で記録されている種数は約1200属15000種で、未記載種を含めると約1800属60000種以上が生息していると考えられている[1]。日本には約360属が生息しており[1]、1400種以上の種が記録されている[7]。
分類
ヒメバチ科には以下の37亜科が含まれる[2][8]。なお亜科の和名については「日本産ヒメバチ目録」に従った[7]。なお、ミズバチ亜科 Agriotypinae (ミズバチ属のみ) は、独立した科 Agriotypinae として扱われることもある[1]。
