Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa 2016 (Samoan Language Week) takes place between 29 May and 4 June. This special week provides an opportunity to celebrate and learn Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language) a dynamic, and rich language. The kaupapa for Gagana Samoa 2016 is “E felelei manu ae ma’au i o latou ofaga - Birds migrate to environments where they survive and thrive”.
The sea bird image above is from a folder of original artworks produced for Samoan school publications. The first 2 readers for Samoan schools were printed in 1948. These were followed by publications relating to other Pacific Island nations.
This record series (782), and series 6009, appear to comprise of artworks mainly for these publications. They were transferred to Archives New Zealand from the Department of Education.
