US military serial 52-7265.
The ‘FICON’ project involved modified RF-84 aircraft being carried by a B-36 Peacemaker, the idea being to extend the range of the fighters. The theory was good but in practice the ‘hook-up’ proved difficult, particularly in bad weather, and several F-84s were damaged. Twenty five RF-84Ks entered service from 1955, the project being cancelled the following year. This is one of only three of the model to survive.
