English: The 10th floor of the Osaka Museum of History is dedicated to Osaka’s ancient past. Just outside the museum are the remains of the ancient Naniwa Palace, a centre of Japanese government from 645 – 793. Here is a view of the remains of the ancient Naniwa Palace opposite the Osaka museum as seen from a window on the 10th floor of the museum. These ruins were only discovered in 1953, but one can imagine what the palace buildings originally looked like by looking at this view and then comparing it with diagrams and sketches of what the palace buildings placed alongside. Part of the palace has been reconstructed on this top floor with huge vermilion pillars, and mannequins dressed in imperial court costumes. I did see it but did not realize what it was at that time as it was built to life size. The portion seen here is probably the 'daigokuden' or council hall of the palace. (Osaka, Japan, Apr/ May 2019)
