Italiano: Il ritratto di Enrico IV, re di Francia, marito di Maria de' Medici, fa parte della cosiddetta "serie aulica" (o "dei serenissimi principi"), una raccolta di ritratti dei membri più importanti della famiglia Medici.
Nel 1611 Cristina di Lorena commissionò a Frans Pourbus il Giovane, pittore di corte della nipote Maria a Parigi, due ritratti: uno della regina, l'altro del re (cioè il figlio Luigi XIII). Per errore, però, Pourbus realizzò il ritratto del defunto marito, Enrico IV. Soddisfatta comunque del risultato – i due dipinti fanno ora parte della Galleria Palatina e sono esposti negli appartamenti reali – Cristina commissionò subito dopo altre due copie per la “serie aulica” degli Uffizi. Il ritratto di Enrico IV fu tolto dalla serie nel 1825 e rimessovi per breve tempo alla fine del secolo. Nel 1925 fu dato in deposito a Montecitorio, per tornare definitamente agli Uffizi nel 1996.English: The portrait of Henri IV, King of France, husband to Maria de' Medici, is part of the so-called "serie aulica" (or "of the most serene princes"), a collection of portraits of the most important members of the House of Medici.
In 1611 Christina of Lorraine commissioned to Frans Pourbus the Younger, court painter of her niece Maria in Paris, two portraits: one of the queen, the other of the king (i.e. her son Louis XIII). Wrongly Pourbus painted her late husband, Henry IV. Anyhow, Christina was satisfied – the two portraits are now into the Galleria Palatina and are displayed in the Royal apartements – and commissioned immediately other two copies for the “serie aulica” of the Uffizi. Henry IV's portrait was removed from the series in 1825 and returned to it briefly in the end of 19th century. In 1925 it was given in deposit to Montecitorio and came back to the Uffizi definitively in 1996. |
