"S" Class (2nd Group) Submarine "HMS Seraph", 715 tons, launched 1941, refitted with streamlined conning tower, at Torquay, 08/61. I went on board this submarine - and very cramped it was. Seraph was used almost exclusively on intelligence and special operations in WWII, including "Operation Mincemeat" where, off the coast of Spain, she dropped a corpse in Royal Marine uniform with papers falsely indicating there was to be an invasion of Sardinia & Greece (rather then Siciliy which was actually the case). The Spanish picked up the corpse and passed the information to the Germans, who diverted forces to these areas. A film was made of this called "The Man Who never Was". Scanned photograph taken with a simple Brownie 127, hence dubious quality.
