Français : Représentation de la panoplie d'instruments de cautérisation utilisés par Ambroise Paré pour remplacer la cautérisation à l'huile bouillante, très douloureuse et laissant de lourdes séquelles quand elle ne tuait pas le patient, et qui était utilisée pour cautériser les blessures par balles (on pensait que la poudre causait la putréfaction des chairs sans cautérisation à l'huile bouillante. Ces instruments sont notamment représentés dans The Works of that Famous Chirurgion Ambrose Parey (Ambroise Paré), London: 1624. De nombreux musées présentent de tels instruments (ex Musée de l'ancien hôpital Saint-Jean, à Brugge, en Belgique) |
