English: Cauldron (ding) inscribed Palace of Bright Radiance Tomb 2 Dongdong Mountain Xuzhou Jiangsu Western han 1st century BCE. This ding was one of seven bronze cauldrons owned by Lady Zhao wife of the eighth king of Chu, Liu Yanshou (reigned 100-68 BCE). With a spherical belly and lid, this small tripod bears an inscription that references the name Mingguang gong (Palace of Bright Radiance). Given that a palace with the same name was constructed at the Han capital Chang'an in 101 BCE, this vessel most likely was one of a set of imperial wedding gifts granted to the woman who married the Chu king. The ruling house of the Han followed the Zhou tradition in believing that nobles' possession of ding vessels associated them with the privilege and mandate awarded by Heaven. Thus they often granted ding and other bronze vessels to regional courts to show imperial favor.
