Rename article,（項目名変更）

I think this article should be renamed to be "grid.org" since it describes primarily the computing project, and a separate article called "United Devices" created to represent the company. That would correspond better with the English wikipedia site. See en:United Devices and en:grid.org -- 67.100.216.14 2005年10月15日 (土) 18:27 (UTC)

2chとか見る限りこのプロジェクト及びクライアントアプリの呼び方は「UD」がほぼ全てを占め「grid.org」は1割どころか1分にも遠く及ばない（但しサイト名やドメイン名としては別）ように感じているので、個人的に既成事実として英語「grid.org」の日本語訳は「UD」ないし「United Devices」という外来語であり国名が食材の名前になってしまったメリケン粉のように、会社名がプロジェクト名になった例である、としちゃってもいいくらいの気がするんですよね。

それが乱暴だとしても、日本語版には「項目名は基本的に正式名称だが、最も使われている通称を用いても良い」という奇妙な決まりもあるわけで…。最も多い通称が採用されるならば、grid.orgになることはまずないでしょうしね。

1. このプロジェクトの日本語の正式名称は何か
2. 同じく、最も多く使われている通称は何か
3. 正式名称と通称、どっちを使うべきか（1≠2の場合）

この辺り、日本語版の皆様の意見をお聞かせ願えればと思います。なお私の感覚ではgrid.orgという名前はステープラー（ホッチキス参照）っぽい位置にいるので、もし改名するとしても「UDがん研究プロジェクト」等の方が相応しいと感じます。Bit 2005年10月15日 (土) 20:50 (UTC)

I apologise for only being able to reply in English... I agree that sometimes a company name incorrectly becomes the well-known alias for its product. People and the 2ch team sometimes say "United Devices" or "UD" as an abbreviation for "United Devices Cancer Research Project" (which is how it is supposed to be officially written[1]).

However, it is best to avoid ambiguity by using correct names for the primary name of the article, and redirects for other informal uses. For example, notice that en:Scotch tape redirects to "Sellotape". In English the word "xerox" is used unofficially as a verb (the act of copying) and as a noun (a copied document), on Wikipedia the en:Xerox article describes the company and that article contains a section en:Xerox#Trademark_issues that describes the unofficial uses and provides links to en:xerography.

Please note that the company "United Devices" (not the "United Devices Cancer Research Project") does commercial business with large Japanese companies such as NTT Data and Sumisho [2], so not all Japanese people know "United Devices" to mean only the cancer project.

One option would be to let "United Devices" become a disambiguation page that links to: (1) the project "United Devices Cancer Research Project"; (2) a page to "United Devices (company)".

The other option would be to let "United Devices" be a page about the company, which also contains page links to "United Devices Cancer Research Project" and/or "grid.org" pages. (This is what is done on the English wikipedia.)

Continuing to use the name incorrectly can lead to en:Genericized trademark abuse, so it would be best to avoid encouraging that incorrect usage. -- 67.100.216.14 2005年10月17日 (月) 04:57 (UTC)

なるほど、2chとかで言われてる「UD」や「United Devices」は「United Devices がん研究プロジェクト」の略語ってことですね。67.100.216.14さんが「gird.org」ではなくこれで良くて他に反対者がいないなら「United Devices がん研究プロジェクト」か「UDがん研究プロジェクト」に移動して新たに「United Devices (企業)」も立てて今の項目はリダイレクトから曖昧さ回避にしても良いと思います。ただし、私はUD社の項目は書けませんのでご了承下さい。がん研究してることしか知らないのでスタブにしかならないですし、全く興味ないので調べたくも無いですし。
