"and does not have much meaning".[編集]

In English at least, "autumnal" can mean "of, relating to or characteristic of autumn", and has taken on a range of meanings because "relating to or characteristic of autumn" has certain associations / connotations for certain writers and readers. (Excerpt from a program note: "and by the time Dvořák composed his sixth symphony in 1880, the Romantic era that Beethoven ushered in was in its autumnal years.") People speak of autumnal years, autumnal tints (greyish, shaded, on the verge of winter)- the latter perhaps the meaning of the title of Prokofiev's poem (I do not know the original Russian title and need to remember that "Autumnal" is an English translation thereof!), etc. It's not direct meaning, but that is not a lack of meaning.--ELSchissel会話2023年5月2日 (火) 14:13 (UTC)[返信]
