LARES（Laser Relativity Satellite）はイタリア宇宙機関の科学衛星[1]。ヴェガロケットで2012年2月9日に打ち上げられる予定[2]。
ミッション
LARESは直径約36.4mの球体形で、重量はおよそ400kg[3]。タングステン合金製で表面に92枚のコーナー・キューブ・リフレクタが取り付けられている。リフレクタは地上局からレーザーによって衛星を追跡するために取り付けられている。
LARESは高度1400kmの軌道に投入され、International Laser Ranging Service基地によって追跡されることになっている[4][5]。
Lense-Thirring effectの計測という科学的目的もある[6] 。また人工衛星測地学や地球力学の分野の観測にも使用されうる。
