The ShinHoTo Chi-Ha was probably the best tank produced by Japan up to 1945. It was an upgraded Chi-Ha with an enlarged three-man turret (ShinHoTo actually translates as ‘new turret’) and high-velocity 47mm gun. It first saw action at the 1942 Battle of Corregidor in the Philippines and served until the end of the war.
This example was used by the 11th Tank Regiment on Shumshu Island, which is where it was recovered from.
On display in ‘Victory Park’, Museum of the Great Patriotic War, Poklonnaya Hill, Moscow, Russia.
