AFD ambulance used in Akron SWAT situations staffed by specially trained EMT's. The following is an excerpt from an AFD Annual Report: "The Fire Department TEMS team is comprised of fifteen specially trained and equipped paramedics dedicated to providing emergency medical support for the Akron Police Department SWAT team during tactical missions and training. The team acts as a liaison between the fire and police department during tactical operations and provides emergency medical care to sick or injured civilians and police officers in situations where standard medical personnel are not equipped to operate." "The AFD Tactical EMS Team currently consists of 15 tactical paramedics specially trained to treat wounded officers and civilians in hazardous environments such as drug interdiction, hostage negotiations and barricaded subjects. The team supports the Akron Police Department SWAT team and the Summit County Bomb Squad. The TEMS medic role is to provide immediate treatment to injured persons during high-risk law enforcement operations, provide the scene commander with a medical threat assessment, and promote the safety and health of law enforcement personnel" |
