この {{empty category}} テンプレートは、たとえ時々において中身が空白になるようなページであっても、管理者等が削除しないように喚起するタグを貼り付けます。
こうしたカテゴリページは、メンテナンス・トラッキング・クリーナップで使用され、その時によって随時、空白になったり追加されたりするので、常にその受け皿として保持することが必要です。
過去経験上、カテゴリが空白であると、使用されていないとみなされて削除されることがしばしば発生しています。
また、このテンプレートは、対象カテゴリが、Wikipedia:Database reports/Empty categoriesの一覧に追加されるのを防ぎます。
