Can you de-block the bot? I'm missing its updates to Wikidata:Database_reports/identical_birth_and_death_dates/1. There doesn't seem to be a consensus nor a clear indication why the approach chosen years ago should be changed, even if it may displease a globally banned user. --- Jura 14:36, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) You might want to ask Ymblanter. All Sotiale did was disabling autoblock on Toolforge IPs and probably don't know the real reason. — regards, Revi 14:59, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Uh... everyone, all I did was disable the autoblock, and there was no judgment about bot problem. This place may be suitable for discussion, but please continue to discuss it in other appropriate spaces. I am embarrassed because I keep getting emails. --Sotiale (talk) 15:34, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

KrBot acted on VIAF ID (P214) and GND ID (P227) deleting redirected and deleted IDs. The situation is intricated because there are three different discussions ongoing: Property talk:P214#Removal of redirected and deleted IDs (supporting the actions of KrBot), Property talk:P227#Removal of redirected IDs (mixed results), Wikidata:Requests for comment/Handling of stored IDs after they've been deleted or redirected in the external database (supporting deprecation of redirected and deleted IDs); I think that a consensus should be found on how KrBot should act (deleting or deprecating) before unblocking it. --Epìdosis 09:41, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CU Block[edit]

Hey! I noticed that you didn't blocked any of the users from the last couple of CU request that you answered. Anything wrong /: Trade (talk) 10:52, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, if I didn't blocked them, it may be letting other admins review them, or it's simply forgotten. If these accounts are not blocked, you can request blocking on AN at any time! --Sotiale (talk) 14:47, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You need to replace the , in the url with a . Unfortunately, the domain is globally filtered. --Trade (talk) 15:27, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, now it's open. I didn't notice that . was converted to the string %2C on my web browser. It's a very interesting effort :D It makes it easy to see what kinds of multiple account users are doing what spam. Cool! --Sotiale (talk) 15:33, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question about archives of requests for checkuser[edit]

Hello. I found archives of requests for checkuser of 2020th year only. Where are earlier archives of the previous years? Раммон (talk) 20:07, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RfC was created by Sotiale in April 2020. Look at the history. @Раммон:--Trade (talk) 21:55, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is the first year that Wikidata has local checkusers. Previous requests can be found in meta's SRCU. --Sotiale (talk) 13:22, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could you take a look at these?[edit]

  • Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Rasel Bont
  • Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Polabott
  • Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Hums4r
  • Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Joges Kumar
  • Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Gundecha1

I guess i'm a bit of disagreement with @1997kB:'s decline. Not sure how to proceed.--Trade (talk) 12:58, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Trade. Stale accounts should go to AN, not a request for checkuser. I haven't looked at all of them, In general, cases rejected by 1997kB appear to be cases where checkuser cannot proceed. --Sotiale (talk) 13:18, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe remember i something wrong but when the account is stale don't we usually just block them based on behavioral evidence? As opposed to move the it to AN? --Trade (talk) 13:33, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Since checkuser requests are primarily for checkuser processing, if you wanted their block, you should post it to AN. Checkusers are not obligated to block them in checkuser requests. Ofc, in general, there are many cases of direct block for convenience. --Sotiale (talk) 12:11, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The main reason i posted these stale requests to CU was mainly to make it easier and convenient for others to keep track on and document the sockpuppet users habits and patterns. I'm not sure if you think that's a good idea. If it's because it clutters then i can move the requests to the archive after they have been declined. --Trade (talk) 22:21, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, since checkuser requests are currently choosing the case page method, there is a function you mentioned. However, cases that are not related to checkuser processing must be done separately. The idea you're talking about is fine, but I'm not sure where to properly implement it. Anyway, it's a good idea, but it should be viewed separately from the checkuser request page. --Sotiale (talk) 02:11, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Share your IP Masking comments and suggestions[edit]

Hello Sotiale,

In line with global trends about user data collection and use, the Wikimedia Foundation will be masking IPs to protect user privacy but would also be building tools to ensure abuse mitigation on our wikis continue to function well in the absence of IP addresses. We would like to know, how will IP Masking impact you? Also which tools will you need to be able to effectively govern the projects in absence of IPs?

Kindly read more about the project and the tools we are currently working on, you can offer critique, you can also suggest your own. Please use the talk page for this.

Best regards,
Anti-Harassment Tools Team

@Masssly: Hi. I am very happy that dagwiki has finally been created. I've been so busy with recent COVID-19 situation that I haven't been paying much attention to your project. Your request has been processed right away. Good luck with your new wiki, Masssly :) --Sotiale (talk) 10:05, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

User:Colawi[edit]

Would you say the user page is out of scope? It reads like CV--Trade (talk) 20:13, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage is a personal space, but as a userpage, I think it's overkill. It would be better to ask the user to fix it. --Sotiale (talk) 12:45, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mhyz Eff[edit]

Hello Sotiale. I wanted to make sure you've seen the comments by User:Sunkanmi12, here, (you probably weren't pinged and there appears to be no response). In relation to that, I wanted you to be aware of this request, made by User:Kinvidia on enwiki. I am just starting on it, but it's likely I will entertain it in its entirety. This type of thing is a regular problem for users in that country. Thanks. -- Zzuuzz (talk) 18:00, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Zzuuzz: Thanks for letting me know! Yes, I did not receive any notification regarding this. Just unblock them. Their pattern is quite similar to non-notable item spammers, so I didn't think it would be an individual user. As it happens from time to time, my apologies to them anyway. --Sotiale (talk) 22:10, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Super, thanks. I make no promises about the quality of their future edits :) -- Zzuuzz (talk) 03:33, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please deal with it,this and this,thanks.--MCC214 (talk) 07:39, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata:Requests for checkuser[edit]

There seems to be a boring habit for JarBot to archive unanswered requests Trade (talk) 00:17, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Any idea what happened to the other CU's? They seems a bit inactive on the page--Trade (talk) 00:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it's because it wasn't processed in a timely manner, and I recommend pinging me if it hasn't been processed for more than 3 days. --Sotiale (talk) 09:00, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably a mix of several people?[edit]

If you wanna know how many users are involved in this paid editor group you might wanna consult Bovlb Trade (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

They just spam, so we don't need to know exactly who they are. Spam is spam, just block them. We're just trying to find other hidden accounts for preventing more abuse. --Sotiale (talk) 10:51, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My point was largely whether or not we should consider to merge some of the CU requests
Anyways, there's a bunch of newly created accounts with identical user pages that are very likely connected. Probably worth a look.
This seems to confirm the connection--Trade (talk) 21:46, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear Sotiale,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study should take no more than 15 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.
