ハイヤー・グラウンド・プロダクションズ（Higher Ground Productions）、または単にハイヤー・グラウンド（Higher Ground）は、2018年に元アメリカ合衆国大統領のバラク・オバマと元ファーストレディのミシェル・オバマによって設立された製作会社である。
歴史
[編集]2018年5月、オバマ夫妻はNetflixと複数年契約を結び、エンターテインメント業界における多様な声を引き上げることを目的として脚本の有無を問わない映画およびテレビのプロジェクトを製作するハイヤー・グラウンド・プロダクションズを立ち上げた[1]。ミシェル・オバマは「私たちを鼓舞し、私たちを取り巻く世界について異なる考えを抱かせ、他者に対して心を開かせるストーリーテリングの力を私は常に信じてきた」と述べた[1]。2019年2月、プリヤ・スワミナサンとトーニャ・デイヴィスとカドリーヤ・"Q"・シャムシッド＝ディーンが入社し、スワミナサンとデイヴィスが共同責任者、シャムシッド＝ディーンがクリエイティブ・エグゼクティブを務めた[2]。
2019年6月6日、Spotifyはハイヤー・グラウンドとパートナーシップを結び、Spotify独占のポッドキャストの製作を発表した[3]。パートナーシップに基づく最初のポッドキャスト『The Michelle Obama Podcast』は2020年7月29日に初放送された[4]。
この企業初の映画は2019年に公開された『アメリカン・ファクトリー』である。2020年にNetflixはミシェル・オバマの同名の回想録を宣伝するブックツアーに密着したドキュメンタリー映画『マイ・ストーリー』を公開した[5]。
ハイヤー・グラウンドはフレデリック・ダグラスの伝記の長編映画化、第二次世界大戦後のニューヨーク市のファッションシーンを舞台に下ドラマシリーズ、報道されなかった注目すべき人々の死にスポットを当てた『ニューヨーク・タイムズ』の死亡記事欄を脚本化したアンソロジーシリーズなど、複数のプロジェクトを開発中である[6]。
2022年6月、ハイヤー・グラウンドはSpotifyとの提携を解消し、Audibleとの数百万ドルで複数年契約を結ぶことが発表された[7]。
受賞
[編集]2020年、この会社が手がけた映画『アメリカン・ファクトリー』がアカデミー賞長編ドキュメンタリー映画賞とプライムタイム・エミー賞ドキュメンタリー/ノンフィクション番組監督賞を受賞した[8][9][10]。
