c/n 414-6464.
Built 1942 and allocated US military serial ‘41-36975’. Although ordered as ‘FH174’ for the RAF, it was instead diverted to the Royal Australian Air Force as ‘A16-199’.
Joined 13sqn RAAF in June 1942 and flew with them until April 1943 when it joined 2sqn. When the squadron re-equipped with Beauforts a year later, the Hudson joined 3Comms Unit until stored in late 1945. Sold off in 1947, it then began a civil career as ‘VH-SMM’ and later as ‘VH-AGJ’. It was finally de-registered and stored in February 1972. In April 1973 it was sold to the Strathallan Collection in Scotland and undertook an epic 12,000 mile ferry flight. This was to be its last flight. At Strathallan it was repainted into RAAF 13sqn markings and was on static display there until sold to the RAF Museum in July 1981. By January 1982 it was on display in the main historic hangars at Hendon, where it remains today as the only example in Europe.
