ラインホルド・ニーバー(Reinhold Niebuhr, 1892年6月21日-1971年6月1日）は、20世紀を代表するプロテスタント神学者、牧師、政治学者。

ドイツ系牧師の子として生まれる。1914年にイェール大学卒業後、デトロイト市で牧師として奉職。その後1928年から、ニューヨークのユニオン神学校で教鞭をとる。1955年から1960年にかけては副学長を務めた。1946年以降トルーマン政権の非公式機関のメンバーとして政治的影響力を発揮した。

[編集] 思想と影響

デトロイトで目の当たりにしたフォード社の労働者たちの悲惨な状況がニーバーの思想形成に決定的な影響を与えたと言われている。 彼は実際に政治的影響力を行使できるポストを得た現代アメリカで最初の神学者と言ってよく、その思想は、アメリカの政治･外交政策に大きな影響を与えた。
ドイツの神学者ディートリッヒ・ボンヘッファーは、1930年から1931年にかけて、ニーバーのもとで学んだ。ボンヘッファー研究者の多くは、ニーバーが（神学的であるより）あまりに社会的であるという点についてボンヘッファーは批判的であったが、彼自身が自覚していた以上にニーバーから強い影響を受けたと考えている。
他にニーバーから強い影響を受けた著名人としては、2人のノーベル平和賞受賞者、キング牧師とジミー・カーター第39代アメリカ大統領を挙げることができる。

The Serenity Prayer の作者として知られている。 また、アメリカにおける文民対象の最高位の勲章の一つ大統領自由勲章を受章している。
