マフムード・マムダニ

マフムード・マムダニ (Mahmood Mamdani, 1947年 - ) はウガンダ・カンパラ生まれのインド系3世のアフリカの文化人類学、政治学者。コロンビア大学人類学部教授、ハーバート・リーマン政治学教授 (1999年 - )、アフリカ研究所長 ( - 2004年) [1]。ダカールに置かれているアフリカ社会科学研究発展評議会 (CODESRIA) の議長 (1999年 - 2002年)。

来歴[編集]

ウガンダで生まれ、米国の奨学金を受けピッツバーグ大学、タフツ大学フレッチャースクール、ハーバード大学に留学し1974年に博士号取得、イディ・アミン政権時代にインド系移民の追放を受けイギリスに亡命、ダルエスサラーム大学（1973年 - 1979年）を経て第二次ミルトン・オボテ政権時にウガンダに帰国しマケレレ大学教員 (1980年 - 1993年)として成年識字教育計画に携わり、鉄道労働者の政治活動に関わった。カンパラの基礎研究センターの財務部長（1987年-1996年）も兼ねた。1988年ミーラー・ナーイルと結婚。ケープタウン大学教授[2]（1996年 - 1999年）。

アフリカ史学、政治学、国際関係論の専門家と看做され、その言動はアフリカに関する議論で重要な役割を果たした。1996年の『市民と臣民』(Citizen and Subject) は米国アフリカ学会 (ASA) の1998年度ハースコヴィッツ賞を受賞した。2001年にはノーベル平和賞授賞シンポジウムに招かれた[3]。米『フォーリン・ポリシー』誌と英『プロスペクト』誌の2008年度の世界の知識人100人の一人に選ばれた[4]。

英語、フランス語、グジャラート語、ヒンディー語、ガンダ語、パンジャーブ語、スワヒリ語、ウルドゥー語などを話す。
