解説North American B-25D Mitchell ’50 yellow’ (24591301617).jpg
c/n 100-23681.
Original US military serial 43-3355.
The Soviet Air Force received 862 B-25 during WW2, so it is appropriate that one is preserved in the Air Force Museum.
This is an early 'D' model with the dorsal turret in the rear fuselage.
There are several non-standard modifications on this aircraft. The dorsal turret is of Soviet design, and a twin-gun ventral turret is fitted. Ventral turrets were usually plated over on US operated B-25's.
The most significant difference, however, is that the aircraft appears to be fitted with the engines and propellers from a Douglas A-20. Given how well the cowlings are fitted, I would guess that this was an in-service modification, although I can find no evidence of this being carried out regularly.
Originally displayed as ’50 white’ she has been repainted again recently into a more accurate scheme and will soon move inside to join the other WW2 bombers in Hangar 6B.
