ダークホースコミックスの本社

ダークホースコミックス (Dark Horse Comics) は、アメリカン・コミックスの出版社である。その規模はマーベルコミックとDCコミックに次ぐ大きさである。

オレゴン州ポートランドのメトロポリタン地区のいくつかのマンガ本専門店を経営するマイケル・リチャードソンが1986年にダークホースプレゼンツと呼ばれるアンソロジー本と共にはじめたのがきっかけで、書店の売り上げはダークホースコミックスへと回った。出版社はオレゴン州ミルウォーキーに拠点を構えている。

ダークホースはスター・ウォーズやバフィー 〜恋する十字架〜、エイリアン、Who Wants to Be a Superhero?といった著作権のついた作品のコミカライズを幅広く行い、フランク・ミラーのシン・シティや300、マイク・ミニョーラのヘルボーイ、スタン坂井の兎用心棒、大友克洋のAKIRAやマイケル・シェイボンのThe Escapistといった漫画家オリジナル作品も出版されている。

1993年から1996年の間、Comics Greatest Worldという刊記(のちにDark Horse Heroesという名前に変更)のもとで、スーパーヒーローのシリーズを出版した。

1996年より後になってこの刊記は休止され、2000年代初期にはゴーストをも含むキャラクター間のクロスオーバー作品の出版は取りやめとなった。

現在のところ特殊能力を持ったキャラクターたちによる独自の世界というのはないが、マンガ作品の売れ行きは好調である。

ダークホースコミックスの映画部門ダークホースエンタテインメントはマスクやヘルボーイといったダークホースコミックスの作品を基にした映画を作っている。

DH Press刊記は、エイリアンやプレデターといったダークホースコミックスの人気作品の小説化を担当している。
