イマジン・ドラゴンズ (Imagine Dragons) は、ネバダ州ラスベガスを中心に活動するアメリカのオルタナティヴ・ロック・バンド。バンド名はある言葉のアナグラムだが、元となった言葉は明かされていない[1]。

2009年から2011年にかけて、バンドは地元ラスベガスで録音された3枚のEPをリリースした[2][3]。その後2011年11月にインタースコープ・レコードと契約した。アレックス・ダ・キッド（英語版）によるプロデュースの下ウエストレイク・レコーディング・スタジオで録音されたメジャーデビューEP『Continued Silence』は2012年2月14日にリリースされ[4]、Billboard 200で最高40位を記録した[5]。

2012年8月18日にはインディー時代の3枚目のEPから表題曲「It's Time」がシングルカットされ、Billboard Hot 100で最高15位を記録したほか[6]、Billboard Alternative Songs（英語版）では2012年の同チャート最長となる32週連続トップ10入りを果たした[7]。同曲のミュージック・ビデオは2012年4月にMTVの系列各局で初放映され[8]、同年7月にはMTV Video Music Awardsにノミネートされた[9]。2012年11月、「It's Time」はアメリカレコード協会によってプラチナに認定された[10]。

2012年9月4日には初のスタジオ・アルバム『Night Visions』がリリースされ、初週に8万3000枚を売り上げBillboard 200で2位に立った[11]。同アルバムはゴールドに認定されている[12]。

『ビルボード』誌はイマジン・ドラゴンズを2012年6月時点の「2012年の最も明るい新星」の一つに選んだ[13]。またAmazon.comは彼らを「2012年のフェイバリット・ロック・アーティスト」とした[14]。

2012年、バンドは『ザ・トゥナイト・ショー・ウィズ・ジェイ・レノ』、『ジミー・キンメル・ライブ!』、『レイト・ナイト・ウィズ・ジミー・ファロン』、『コナン（英語版）』といった深夜番組に出演し、いずれも「It's Time」の演奏を披露した。同曲は『glee/グリー』の第4シーズンの最初のエピソードでダレン・クリスによってカバーされた[15]。また、『The Perks of Being a Wallflower』、『The Words』、『The Host』といった映画の予告編には『Night Visions』からの楽曲が使われている。
