アルバート・O・ハーシュマン

アントン・ドストラー将軍の軍事裁判にて通訳を務めるハーシュマン。（1945年）

アルバート・O・ハーシュマン（Albert Otto Hirschman, 1915年4月7日 - 2012年12月11日）は、ドイツ出身の経済学者。専門は政治経済学、開発経済学。

略歴

• 1915年　ベルリン生まれ。
• ベルリン大学在学中、反ナチス運動に参加したことで、フランスに出国。
• ソルボンヌ大学で学ぶ。
• 1930年代中頃　ロンドン・スクール・オブ・エコノミクス学部学生として学ぶ。
• 1938年　トリエステ大学で博士号を得る。
• 1941年　ロックフェラー財団の奨学金でアメリカ合衆国に行く。
• アメリカ陸軍で戦時勤務を終える。
• 1945年　ワシントンで連邦官庁に入る。
• 1945年　最初の著書『外国貿易の力と構造』を出版。
• 1952年　コロンビアのボゴタにある国家計画局の財政顧問となる。
• 2年後　私的な経済コンサルタントとしてコロンビアに留まる。
• 1956年～1958年　イェール大学のリサーチ教授として初めて教える。
• 1958年～1964年　コロンビア大学の国際経済学教授となる。
• 1964年～1974年　ハーヴァード大学の政治経済学教授となる。
• 1974年　プリンストン大学のプリンストン高等研究所の経済学教授となる（後に名誉教授） 。
• 1978年　ラトガーズ大学より名誉学位を受ける。
• 1980年　政治経済学の部門で「フランク・E・ザイドマン特別賞」を受賞。　　
• 2012年12月11日、死去。97歳没。

主張

顧客に「離脱」オプションさえ提供すれば健全な状態が維持され、発展していくとする従来の経済概念に疑問を投げ、発言や、発言を促す忠誠(心)の重要性を説いた。(「離脱・発言・忠誠より)
